Kegger On The Savanna

There's really no telling what the animals at the zoo get up to after hours. Their daily routines--swatting flies, tearing into raw meat and walking the same slow circle of their pens--are no great mystery, but most of us can only imagine what goes on at the Dallas Zoo when the sun goes down. But now, with Mayor Tom Leppert as your safari guide, you'll get just that chance at "Giraffes, Monkeys and Lepperts," a night out at the zoo complete with music, caricatures, rides on the carousel, face painting and other games. Of course, there's the night's main entertainment too, a rare evening view of the zoo's new Giants of the Savanna exhibit, where the animals, mingling together in a 10-acre habitat, really let loose once the work day's done. The event's a fundraiser for Education is Freedom, an organization that helps Dallas students stay on track through high school and reach college. The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Dallas Zoo, 650 South R. L. Thornton Freeway. Adults are $10, students ages four to 18 are $5 and kids three and under get in free. A "herd pass" admits a group of four for $20. For tickets and info, call 214-432-8556 or visit giraffesmonkeysandlepperts.com.
Sat., June 26, 6-9 p.m., 2010
