Many people debate over the pronunciation of potato--po-tay-to or po-tah-to. Others spend hours disputing nature versus nurture. Those at the Amon Carter Museum will be deliberating the meaning and significance of more than 80 paintings included in its newest exhibit, Constructive Spirit: Abstract Art in South and North America, 1920s-'50s. The exhibit will feature abstract paintings, photographs, sculptures and drawings created with vibrant color, geometric shapes and sharp lines. Artwork up for debate includes pieces like "Egg Beater No.2," "The Wheel of the Law #83" and "Movimento Contra Movimento." Each piece examines the cosmopolitan period of modernism from the '20s to the '50s. Artists such as Alexander Calder, Louise Nevelson, Joaquin Torres-Garcia and Arshile Gorky will be featured. Constructive Spirit runs through September 5 at the Amon Carter Museum, 3501 Camp Bowie Blvd. in Fort Worth. Exhibit hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays; and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is free. For more information, visit cartermuseum.org.
