That's What She Said

The title of the film showing this weekend as part of the Magnolia at The Modern series, Women Without Men, is reminiscent of that famous women's lib slogan, which is sometimes attributed to Gloria Steinem, that says, "A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle." Nice one, ladies! Yet, while nearly everyone is familiar with the saying, far fewer are aware there was actually a male response to this argument, which was, "Yes, but who needs a stationary haddock?" Ouch! Those darn men, always winning one-liner competitions and getting paid higher salaries! But, please, this weekend only, ladies and gentlemen, put aside your differences and check out Women Without Men at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St. The film centers on the intertwining lives of four Iranian women, set against the backdrop of the 1953 American-led coup d'etat. Showtimes are 6 and 8 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8.50 ($6.50 for Modern members) and can be purchased beginning two hours before the show begins.
