It's A Total Knock-Out
At Gene Vivero's Boxing Gym in Oak Cliff, you'll find boys and girls pounding bags, skipping rope and occasionally goofing off. You can also find them in Mokah Art Gallery, where professional photographer Kate Mefford's work is on display. Feel the Love: The Little Big Men of Vivero's Boxing Gym captures the young men, ages 8 to 20, who spend their after-school hours training. Most of these fighters-to-be were born without the opportunities enjoyed by more affluent Americans, but through "sweet science" they're able to learn self-respect and discipline...and maybe how to knock someone's teeth out as well. Mefford captures the focus and will of these young pugilists, but also the camaraderie and even love that they possess. Feel the Love hangs at the Mokah Art Gallery through July 24.
