Hypothetically, if you decided to get yourself some culture, and took someone to the theater festival at the Bath House Cultural Center on White Rock Lake, and you, hypothetically, left your wallet at home, then you wouldn't be completely out of luck, thanks to some generous folk at the Bath House. Tagging along with the 12th Annual Festival of Independent Theatres is the art exhibition, Fictional, with its own twists on the stories being told, and it is free to all. The premise of the exhibit is simple: Forty-one Texas artists are presented with miniature descriptions of the stories (four words or less), and then challenged to create their own interpretations of the plays. The artists are discouraged from looking for any further details aside from the small blurbs they are given. "Reconstructed Alice in Wonderland," "Transforming Muses" and "A Day Spent in Purgatory" are a few examples of the phrases the artists must interpret. Sounds kind of like a backwards Rorschach test. The exhibit runs in the Bath House Gallery along with the Festival of Independent Theatres until August 8. For more information, visit dallasculture.org/bathhouseculturecenter.
