Chinese food is not the same the world over. If you go to China, don't expect to get pork fried rice and General Cho's chicken, because Americanized Chinese food doesn't translate back. Other Chinese things, whether it's Bruce Lee movies or traditional music and dance, do translate, and if you take in the Shen Yun Performing Arts show, you'll get the chance to get a taste of what China--the glitzy Las Vegas version at least--can look and sound like. The group Shen Yun has been touring the world since it was formed in 2006 and features a bunch of Chinese people singing, dancing and playing traditional Chinese instruments. The music is supposedly linked to Falun Gong, a Chinese spiritual practice that has been banned by the Chinese government. Honestly, Falun Gong seems like the equivalent of New Age-ism, but if the Chinese government is against it, then by all means take a closer look. So have some Chinese food, the fried kind, and get a ticket to this show, where a good time can be had by all. The show is playing at Bass Performance Hall, Fourth and Calhoun streets in Fort Worth. Tickets are $80 to $150. Call 817-212-4280 or visit basshall.com for more information.
