This article and others like it should be published in the mexican papers, not the US papers. We have our own problems and most of us resent mexicans sneaking arcoss the boarder an then protesting in huge numbers demanding a free pass to citizenship. Obama is not helping americans. He is making deals behind closed doors to delay deportation until he can get into office and push amnesty down our throats. We will need to watch the coming elections to ensure that illegals are not voting him back in.

Well much of what we may here with the news of illegals is not right we all have rights and our freedom my newphew is going to a school in Texas were right next door to the school is a refugee camp of illegal minor boys ,we are outright shocked that under our noses we have illegals that are housed within a church compound .When my husband went to investigate he had all sort of stories from the men and women who worked there at first they thought he was one of them so he went right along with them saying he was a new hire what he found out was very shocking and we are making sure this story is published in the newspaper and so that people in the U.S. HAVE A REALITY CHECK .Whiile at this mission (Baptist ) compound that houses illegals he walked into what is a large office that houses most of the staff he mentioned that one of the staff memebers showed him around,inside were illegals about 100 males young men who attend school in the office you will find case management , clinical , nurse and all sort of staff most of the staff is in care of 8 to 2 (staff) per 8 males . All males are illegals from Salvador , Hounduras, Mexico and Guatemala as he would be told they are taken here by border patrol then process as he was shown into the housing given showers,clothed ,baths ,food , medical ,dental and everything needed to stay very well during the time that they are housed .The agency is looking for their illegal or legal (very few ) family memebers no harm has come to many of these minors and the ORR (Federal Govt. agency who makes this happend ) are helping them to get from one city to where their families are ,All paid for by US . hard working citizens who have and continue to allow these agencies to harbour these illegals make it possible for them to fly out travel to their illegal families and then become part of the pattern of corruptions .Yes the Fereal Govt.is using tax-payers hard earned money to pay for the form of outrage ,These young boys do nothing for our society except to take away they have no means of support but to live off others and manage to get into the US using all the needed know hows of the Federal Govt to help this possible.THESE FOSTER CARE AGENCIES ARE NOTHING MORE THEN THE HARBOURING MEANS FOR ILLEGALS TO MOVE INTO OUR COUNTRY.And I ask all hard working Americans to take a stand against these agencies that cover up the truth .Start looking at your area shelters to see if they have illegal migrants living these check to see the agencies that help them to carry on their act of illegality .There is no reason why these young men and women who should be in their own countries should be coming illegally into this country since many of them are not able to add economy? How did this hysteria of Nationalism all come about that has transformed many debates such as: should immigrants be forced to speak English? Should they conform to White American culture? Are immigrants taking jobs away from White Americans? Do immigrants pose a threat to our national security? Is immigration good or bad for America? Should America close its borders to immigrants? While a majority of these debates focus on Mexican immigrants that enter either legally or illegally. Just like the articles states that many Mexicans can trace their roots to America way before Christopher Columbus discovered America and how today many White Americans (non-Hispanic) refer to Mexican immigrants as legal or illegal Aliens. How ironic when the White new Americans (non-Hispanic) migrated to America they were not referred to as illegal aliens by Historians. Instead, Historians gave them a title as White Settlers and not the negative term used today to belittle future White Hispanic Americans. Is Nationalism today just short of Racism by Definition?
I would argue that today’s Nationalism is brought by fear by White Americans (non-Hispanic) that White Mexican Manifest Destiny also better now as the Comic Race define by Mexican Philosopher José Vasconcelos is happening now. America needs to be embrace itself for this day when White Americans (non-Hispanic) will become the minority in North America before the turn of this next century. The proof is already here. I've got a more accurate word than illegal: Refugee. We send our troops into places like Bosnia and Somalia to free people from abuses no different than these refugees face. We call it America's moral obligation. Yet people like Mr. Angry Guy would rather call them criminals. Why? Because they have been brainwashed by celebrity mouthpieces like Palin and Rush that the helpless rape and torture victims are taking money out of the American people's pockets. That's right, they have some sick mindset that a bleeding victim of sodomy or other mutilation shouldn't be given medical treatment at the hospital because they somehow deserve what they got and tax money shouldn't pay for it. These refugees are fleeing starvation, a drug war that the US is complicit in fueling, and no prospects of bettering their life since once you get money in Mexico, you become a target of kidnappers.
Meanwhile our free-market economy is absolutely dependent upon the cheap labor these refugees provide. They pick our food, mow our lawns and build our houses. The world of Mr. Angry Guy would be one of $10 lettuce, houses at double their current price, and local sales tax revenue down without refugees who pay taxes just like you and I.
But it is much easier to rally the masses with blind anger than generate a real solution. That's all us progressives want.

Sad situation to put yourself in to be able to better your life and/or your families lives. It is a shame that there is such a backlog on applications for those that are using the proper channels. It is terrible that the quota for people wanting to immigrate legally is the same for every country. Just imagine if millions of people from a country that rivals Mexico in population such as China decided to apply for citizenship. You can preach to us about how our country used to be the stomping grounds for people from other countries hundreds of years ago. I have no problem with people from any other country south, north, west, or east of America. Human smuggling is a supply/demand trade. It makes me sick to hear the horror stories of what other's have gone through; especially when they knew the risks they were undertaking when making the choice to be smuggled in. There are human smuggling rings that operate all over and they don't all operate south of the border. There are smugglers that smuggle people from all over the world. It's a sick trade. The law of America is the law though; and when you choose to break the law; you take a risk.

These are sad situations that no one should have to go through. Unfortunately, it is the consequences one pays for breaking the law. If Immigrants would just do the right thing and get legal work visas, none of these problems would exist. They would put the coyotes out of business - just by doing the right thing. And then they would legally be in this country, legally working, and protected by American labor laws. Why is doing things the right way do difficult for so many?

I was stopped 4 times in one day in Guadalajara for being white by GDL police, Zapopan, Tlaquepague, and Jalisco State police. That was just one day out of many over 700 days. 3 days before I drove back for good to Texas, I made a legal left turn with Mexican drivers in front, back and to each side of me AND I was the only one pulled over by a motorcycle cop, a captain, for an illegal left turn. But officer, it was legal and the other 8 surrounding drivers did the same legal left turn, 'but I didn't see them senor, " YES, but it was a legal term. 'Give me your license and go to the Transito Office on Monday to pay your fine and GET your license---which is illegal to confiscate a DL. Since my truck was fully packed and scheduled to leave the next day NEVER to return, I paid him a 'mordita' of 500Pesos. The governments vertical, church(RCC and Pentecostal), doctors(rape girls, other female doctors, prostitution infantil), unions,beaurecrats, are all corrupt. In my upscale neighborhood, they found 4 girls' heads in a black garbage bag. IT WAS assumed to be a drug cartel revenge or payback massacre. ACTUALLY WHAT HAPPENED, a Mexican man 4 years earlier got mad at a neighbor, and then 4 years LATER killed the man's 4 daughters by beheading them and cutting up their bodies. The remaining body parts were found in an adjacent vacant lot. Mexicans are the most brutal people to EACH OTHER. 3-5 are decent and caring, but the majority rule, dictate, and make Mexico a failed state. Mexican sayings say it all: 1. 'In order to get ahead, you have to take advantage of someone'. 2. 'You are guilty until proven richh'. 3. Mexico has a rich government and a poor people'....20,000,000 corrupt wealthy, powerful, elite people take advantage of the other who live on $4.00 a day. SO, almost all have to be venal and criminal in order to survive. Mexicans do not come here in a vacuum, BUT bring their cultural, criminal, and distorted values with them.

Obviously, the author is sympathetic to the plight of those seeking legal status. He is also tries to balance this sympathy by noting the deficiencies in Enforcement and immigration timetable. Well simply put, there are just too many to be absorb given the state of the USA both economically and culturally. I also found his implication that the visas should be weighted by country size/proximity to the U.S. ridiculous. Any country wants the best others can offer and to implay Mexico should have a higher ratio of visa allocation than say, Belgium is nonsense. Its NOT the foreigners place to demand whom we legalize. I feel for those in the situation they live south of the border. What really needs to occur is major institutional change in Mexico or a Guatemala that gives greater opportunity to its citizens. Mexico allows an inadequate amount of multi-national investment. Carlos Slim, world's richest man is wealthy not only because of intelligence but because Mexico cell service is practically his MONOPOLY! Pemex, the nationalized energy company, is deficient in current technology to increase oil and gas reserves. Yet the Mexican constitution forbades foreign investment!! So now Mexico has its largest oilfied depleting FAST with nothing major coming online as a replacement! They look to El Norte to take care of their desperate citizen overflow and send money back to the home country. And lets not forget most who travel north are of Mayan/Aztec/indian descent. The Spanish/Euro ancestry controls much.

The problem is the government of Mexico. That government prohibits a broad array of economic activities which, together, would create a vibrant economic zone in which citizens of Mexico could thrive.
That the "chickens" are so willing to endure the abuses cited in this story is testimony not against America, but against Mexico.

This is a terrible situation. Another reason to control our borders. Another reason to crack down on those that hire illegal immigrants, help Mexico and other Latin countries improve their infrastructure. Incidentally the U.S. is in need of infrastructure construction and deconstruction too.

What kind of a country fosters those who committ atrocities against their fellow countrymen daily? The brutality is beyond comprehension and the Mexican Government appears unmoved to the point of not making a serious effort to stop the carnage. Shame on the Mexican politicians who line their pockets and allow this to continue. IF the US could halt the human traffic into this country the slaughter of those who want to come here at any cost might stop.

The author does not seem to get it. There are too many illegal aliens in this country. Immigration reform is not going to be accepted by the American people, who have to pay for their residency. Nine out of ten better figure out returning to Mexico. They have over run our borders. We cannot afford them. They are costing us billions of dollars in so many, many ways.
They do need to practice family planning and birth control. Wait until you are an adult, get married, then plan your family as you can afford it. Pregnant fourteen year olds is not acceptable in the USA.
Again, they may try to obey the laws; but they don't know what the laws are. They bring their culture of poverty with them. It is very offensive to people, who like clean, quiet neighborhoods.

So, I am just on page 4, and I can see how the "simple" act of "immigrating illegally" is attracting these hard-core criminals into our American cities. Who does not understand that this is an invasion of terrorists. Torture houses? Creating more complex chain of hard cord crime. Stealing vans and trucks? The list of crimes seem endless. Many Hispanics live in fear, even when assimilated into society. They can't obtain driver's license, insurance, AND bank accounts. So on pay day, they are targeted; because they are afraid to call police. Extortion? Rapes? Probably even murder. Who knows? Who wants these kinds of crime in our country? In our neighborhood? In our schools?

I have more sympathy for the people who come here legally, Americans who can't get the help or food stamps etc.that they need because of an overtaxed system. Yeah, I want a better life too. I was wondering if that would be a good defence for robbing a bank...

Send them back to where they came from and make it an enforcable law that if your caught here illegally, You won't be eligable for citizenship. period.

These people are not illegal immigrants. They are illegal aliens. People around the world have it so much worse than Mexico. Sex slaves are kidnapped in US cities and suburbs and transferred across state lines and country borders. Drug gangs murder and torture. Heads are chopped off. Drive by shootings kill.
When we first went into Afghanistan and disrupted the Taliban, people were digging holes in the frozen ground to live through the winter. Some were lucky to get tents. Those same people have no rights, money, education, nor food. That does not give them the reason to enter this country. No matter where I look there seems to be 4 Mexicans to every American caucasion in Dallas. They found a good thing; and now, there are just too many of them. They are breaking our system. Our debt is related to their growing costs to our economy. I don't see it getting better. The feds did return 47,000 or so out of 12 - 30 million, which opened up 47,000 jobs.
Life is hard for them. Life is hard for many Americans. Do an investigation of what it is to be poor in this country. How about an investigation of the true cost to the American governments and taxpayers for these illegal aliens to live in this country? Perhaps we can send them to China, because China now owns this country due to this massive "immigration" over running our country.

Michael, Canada takes care of its citizens so they don't have to crawl across the border. See the difference? Its government is functional and takes care of its people. Mexico? Its government is neither functional nor does it give a damn about its people. Mexico needs to clean its own house so its citizens don't feel compelled to come break our laws and overburden our taxpayers. By the way, both Canada and Mexico have vast amounts of oil. Get a clue.

Wow, I must say it is very nice to see that everyone who has commented believes in the same thing. We don't mind you coming here to work and live as long as you came her LEGALLY and are willing to pay taxes and share in the cost that every other legal US citizen incurs. From what I have read, it costs less than $1000 to become a US citizen the right way. $675 for the application fee, $80 fingerprinting fee, $20 passport photos, $190 to expedite the passport process, $10 for new license, etc. Now look at what these people have paid to be smuggled across ILLEGALLY and know that they MAY be raped, beaten or murdered. It doesn't make any sense. Monica, maybe you should do an article on the people who have came across legally and what they went through and how they like it now that they get to pay what every other US citizen has to pay. Why not do a before and after article about someone who decided to come here LEGALLY, and what their life was like before being a US citizen. Surely there has got be some Mexicans out there that are appreciative of what has been given to them. Surely not all of them hate and criticize the good ol boys and girls over here in the US. DO A STORY ON THAT!

We invaded a country to "free" a people from the "tyranny" of Saddam Hussein. We were trying to help them, and so many of you haters jumped right on board. So brown people with oil are good, brown people wanting to mow your lawns and wash your dishes are bad?

Where do these writers come up with their lies? My wife is from Mexico. She was here legally on a work Visa. After we married, she applied for a green card in February of 2005. She was granted the permanent resident status and given the green card in November of 2005. That's a nine month wait - not 16 years, as this ridiculous article claims. The reason other applicants have to wait longer is that they are likely not here legally to begin with or have ovestayed their original visas. Tough luck. If you can't play by the rules, don't complain when the rules of the game are applied. It is very difficult to migrate legally to America - and that's the way it should be! This country owes nothing to corner-cutting, illegal inmigrantes, amiga. Do it right/LEGALLY in the first place, and obtaining a green card takes less than a year. Get your facts straight.

I would not pay to come to a country with my family just to suffer torture for a maybe chance for illegal freedom and torture. The coyotes are wrong for this but these ppl are paying to possibly suffer worse than the 1.78 a day. If someone is beating the hell out of me or my child then I can't eat..food is the last thing on my mind. I would not cause more suffering to my family like that or myself. Black people survived much suffering and were legal. They didn't come to where they thought it would be better..They lived off the land and you know what some people still do. God provides somehow and someway...he's been doing it forever.

suspected illegal aliens should have no right to the same privacy afforded to legal citizens. Police should have the legal authority to search with out warrant any residence of suspected e legal aligns. The rights of American citizens should not be cart blanch given to illegal aliens,or for that matter any non citizens. Whats the good of being an American citizen if all you get is the responsibility,taxes expectation to defend your country while any foreign national can come her and take what is ours and give nothing in return.

Any discussion of Mexican immigration needs to start with an analysis of the reasons people want to escape that nation.
The answer, obviously, is that they want to escape because the place is a total shithole.
Why is Mexico a shithole?
A nation is the sum of the people and natural resources. Mexico has plenty of natural resources.
Mexicans need to concentrate on cleaning their own nest, rather than escaping their nest and coming to foul ours.

Analysis of the latest Census data indicates that Arizona’s illegal immigrant population is costing the state’s taxpayers about $1.3 billion per year for education, medical care and incarceration. Even if the estimated tax contributions of illegal immigrant workers are subtracted, net outlays still amount to about $1.3 billion per year. The annual fiscal burden borne by Arizonans amounts to more than $700 per household headed by a native-born resident.
This analysis looks specifically at the costs of education, health care and incarceration because they represent the largest cost areas and because a 1994 study conducted by the Urban Institute, which also examined these same costs, provides a useful baseline for comparison ten years later. Other studies have been conducted in the interim, showing trends that support the conclusions of this report.
As this report will note, other significant costs associated with illegal immigration exist and should be taken into account by federal and state officials. But even without accounting for all of the multitude of areas in which costs are being incurred by Arizona taxpayers, the programs analyzed in this study indicate that the burden is substantial and that the costs are rapidly increasing.
The $1.3 billion in costs incurred by Arizona taxpayers is comprised of outlays in the following areas:
Education. Based on estimates of the illegal immigrant population in Arizona and documented costs of K-12 schooling, Arizonans spend approximately $820 million annually on education for illegal immigrant children and for their U.S.-born siblings.
Health Care. Uncom-pensated medical outlays for health care provided to the state’s illegal alien population is now estimated at about $400 million a year.
Incarceration. The cost of incarcerating illegal aliens in Arizona prisons and jails amounts to about $80 million a year (not including the monetary costs of the crimes that led to their incarceration).
The unauthorized immigrant population pays some state and local taxes that go toward offsetting these costs, but they do not come near to matching the expenses. The total of such payments might generously be estimated at $257 million per year.

This article is so biased toward illegal immigration it is ridiculous. Illegal Mexican immigrants have NO right to illegally cross the United States border and should be treated as felonious criminals. What Mexico needs to do is fix its own internal kleptocracy and stop the exodus of uneducated and unskilled peasant labor by educating them and offering them jobs at a living wage. They are not 'entitled' to come here nor are the authors and supporters of SB1070 doing anything other than hoping to enforce the laws of their country. The illegals in Arizona are a tremendous drain on social services like welfare and AHCCCS (health care). They fill the prison system and cost the state tremendous amounts of money each year. The violent crimes they commit are happening daily. Even the ones that come to "work" pay little in taxes while we educate their children, provide them health care and public assistance. An expose was done a few years ago that showed the average illegal Mexican family of four was taking in $3500 of public assistance a month within a handful of months of moving to Arizona with help from illegal immigration advocates within the system. And they have under the table jobs at the same time! America cannot continue to absorb Mexico's underclass and survive.
