Did you ever think that they would not be treated badly by the coyotes if they just stayed home and didn't try to sneak into the US? Why don't you address the cost to local taxpayers? We have to pay for their education - including biligual teachers because many don't know english. We have to pay for their medical - remember when Parkland Hospital sent a bill for unpaid care to the Mexican consulate who promptly laughed it off? Neighborhoods who turn into a 3rd world city - 12 people living in a 3 bedroom house? A liberal compromise would be more amnesty - something we were told would be a one time thing back in the 1990's. You are the ones who are not living in reality - conveniently ignoring the negative effects of illegal immigration. I guess in your world, out of "compassion", we should "compromise" on laws regarding armed robbery or drug dealing since they are just trying to make a living.

I think that it's hilarious that so many are going on and on about an exclusively English-speaking society (anti-Spanish) while not being able to write in their native language with any proficiency whatsoever.
Just for your own future reference: the exclaimation point is to be used sparingly. You certainly don't need sixteen in a row to show that you're "super angry!". The same goes for question marks.
"2" is not a word. It is a number.
The period is your friend.
It's = it is
Its = posessive
Your point will be taken with a greater amount of sincerity if you show that you've managed to pay attention to all of your own years of education.
Also: "supider" is not a word.

Please don’t misunderstand some of my comments. I am ALL FOR immigrants coming to the United States and contributing to our great nation. I also don’t think anyone would argue the fact that immigrants helped build, gave their lives, sweat and blood to help make this country great! But the fore fathers of todays immigrants, for the most part, did it legally and took great pride in becoming an American Citizen. These are a few of the problems I see….
Illegal alien migration into the United States costs American taxpayers $346 billion annually reported by the National Research Council. Katie Couric reported that 300,000 pregnant Mexican women cross the border to birth their babies, known as 'anchor babies', in American hospitals at an average cost of $6,000.00 per birth with no complications. If the child suffers heart defects, Downs Syndrome, Autism or any other problems, the costs jump to $500,000.00 with long term care into the millions of dollars. All footed by the America taxpayer! Once those illegal aliens hit this country, half of them work off the books and do not pay $401 billion dollars annually according to the 2005 Bear Stearns Report. Additionally, they form the second largest underground economy in the world. Both legal and illegal immigrants send $80 billion back to their home countries in cash transfers on untaxed money. I have witnessed personally people of Latino decent send thousands of dollars back to Mexico. I also worked with a Hispanic lady that an illegal immigrant stole her social security number and the IRS was chasing her for taxes that had never been paid!
A 1997 study by the American Academy of Sciences found that the cheap labor of illegal immigrants and poor immigrants caused a 44% decrease in wages among the poorest Americans from 1980 to 1994."
(Center for Immigration Studies).
"A strategy of attrition through enforcement, which includes mandatory workplace verification and measures to curb misuse of Social Security numbers, could reduce the illegal population by as many as 1.5 million illegal immigrants each year."
(Center for Immigration Studies).
Just a few stats from http://www.endillegalimmigration.com/Illegal_Immigration_Facts_&_Statistics/index.shtml
I think there are many US Citizens like myself that would welcome with open arms immigrants from other countries that bring different thoughts, ideas, colorful cultures, and don’t forget different food, if they came in to this country legally like so many of our fore fathers and families have always done.
My thoughts…..

I have to comment on this. The ILLEGAL immagrants are coming here and receiving free education, free food for their children at school, causing school districts to have to hire teachers that speak spanish in order to teach these children. They are taking advantage of the social services that are provided for the poor citizens that are legally here to recieve free health care, food stamps, and even welfare (PAYING NO TAXES THEMSELVES) and you wonder why the american public is upset and wants change. And the issue of launguage is another thing. Why should I have to learn another language to live in the USA?

From Dr. King (Letter from a Birmingham Jail):
Two Types of Laws
* "One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws. I would agree with St. Augustine that 'an unjust law is no law at all'."
* "A just law is a man made code that squares with the moral law or the law of God. An unjust law is a code that is out of harmony with the moral law."
* "Any law that uplifts human personality is just. Any law that degrades human personality is unjust."
* "An unjust law is a code that a numerical or power majority group compels a minority group to obey but does not make binding on itself. This is difference made legal. By the same token, a just law is a code that a majority compels a minority to follow and that it is willing to follow itself. This is sameness made legal."
* "One who breaks an unjust law must do so openly, lovingly, and with a willingness to accept the penalty."

$2.55B is a very large sum of Money. Instead of spending it like Republicans, why don't We The People use it productively? How about Education such as, keeping schools open, keep teachers on payroll, reduce college tuition, reduce drop-out rates, increase math & science test scores to compete with other leading countries? Or, how about spending some of that Money on creating jobs, like Manufacturing, producing tangible products? Or, Heaven Forbid, partner-up with Mexico and create manufacturing jobs there if you don't want them here? Or, maybe how 'bout US behaving like a moral, democratic nation? How about US behaving like a Christian nation? How about "give me your tired, your poor ..." and "the Land of Opportunity"? Why has this country become soo very selfish, egocentric, greedy and money-hungry? The day will come when our posterity will think of US as monsters in how we treat our friendly neighbors south. We need these people to be our Allies in the days ahead AND we need workers to support the baby-boomer retirement epidemic ... Ever think about that? As they say, "Be careful what you wish for, it may actually happen" ... then where will US be? Yikes.

Why do people who want to come /stay here describe the US as founded by immigrants (which is true) in their fight to be here? They use this statement often and loosely as some type of sword. I'm American, born and raised as are probably a lot of people posting here, GENERATIONAL in birth rights. I just can't understand the pro illegal immigration fight. I was warned 6 years ago this was going to happen, I thought the person was stone cold racist, but everything she said is coming to light. We would argue about it because I like seeing, knowing different cultures/people but I see no assimilation into the American culture, only America evolving into something undesirable, hostile and ugly.

I've got a more accurate word than illegal: Refugee. We send our troops into places like Bosnia and Somalia to free people from abuses no different than these refugees face. We call it America's moral obligation. Yet people like Mr. Angry Guy would rather call them criminals. Why? Because they have been brainwashed by celebrity mouthpieces like Palin and Rush that the helpless rape and torture victims are taking money out of the American people's pockets. That's right, they have some sick mindset that a bleeding victim of sodomy or other mutilation shouldn't be given medical treatment at the hospital because they somehow deserve what they got and tax money shouldn't pay for it. These refugees are fleeing starvation, a drug war that the US is complicit in fueling, and no prospects of bettering their life since once you get money in Mexico, you become a target of kidnappers.
Meanwhile our free-market economy is absolutely dependent upon the cheap labor these refugees provide. They pick our food, mow our lawns and build our houses. The world of Mr. Angry Guy would be one of $10 lettuce, houses at double their current price, and local sales tax revenue down without refugees who pay taxes just like you and I.
But it is much easier to rally the masses with blind anger than generate a real solution. That's all us progressives want.

Since no-one really reads the Dallas Observer anyway - your online response is pretty much the best gauge you are going to get on your performance/accuracy and accountability. All of which seem to be pretty low or lacking when it comes to your fact-checking. Not to mention insulting what remaining readers you have is about as stupid as stupid gets. But keep on gracing the pages of the Dallas Observer, along with the other pathetic writers that advocate illegal immigration or the sham and illusion of "immigration reform" = amnsesty. Arizona will be vindicated in the courts - and the majority of other states will get in line to force illegals beyond their borders. The day of reckoning is coming. Admittedly, it is funny to watch liberal idiots weeping and gnashing their teeth. Keep up the good work!

Slain girl's family demands immigration crackdown
Suspect had a ‘green light’ for crime, uncle says
By BRIAN ROGERS
HOUSTON CHRONICLE
Aug. 13, 2010, 9:07PM
Shatavia Anderson, 14, was shot during a robbery as she was walking home Aug. 7. Two suspects were arrested. Video: Andres Quintero. 8/13/10
Family members of a teen gunned down last week railed against America's immigration policy on Friday after learning one of the suspected gunmen was in the country illegally.
Melvin Alvarado, 22, and Jonathan Lopez-Torres, 18, have been charged with capital murder in the Aug. 7 shooting death of 14-year-old Shatavia Anderson.
Immigration officials have said Alvarado was deported in April 2008 and again in May 2009.
Shatavia's uncle, Joe Lambert, said the country's policy on immigration is "a big problem."
"It's really senseless, what happened to my niece, and I do not like it." Lambert said. "They're starting to come over here and they can do whatever they want. What you're doing is giving them a green light telling them, 'Hey, you can do whatever you want.' "

DUH!!! We know it will cost a lot of money that is one of the reasons why Arizona was trying to do something about it!! And if Obama would let the states do whatever it is they need to do then we would start getting out of debt because 1. more jobs available 2. health care debt would go way down 3. More funds for welfare 4. Schools would have more funds EVERYTHING would start getting way better! REMEMBER THE CONSTITUTION! WHAT WOULD THE FOUNDING FATHERS DO?1?
-
Tex Ex 08/16/2010 7:20:00 PM
Here's a compromise:
1. Build several Ellis Island type facilities along the border.
2. Establish a guest worker program for those who do not wish citizenship that includes: immunizations, finger printing, background checks and a crash course in English (with a test - if you're going to be here, learn the f'ing language). Issue a tax ID number. Lastly, collect a 15% surcharge on all remittances sent out of the country (yeah, it's their money, but it's our country - have you seen our debt lately???)
3. For those that want to work toward citizenship, we should streamline the process. Not because we "owe" anything to illegal aliens, but so we can start collecting taxes more quickly.
4. For the illegal aliens who are already here, extend a one year grace period to leave the country and return through proper channels. After that year long period, a surcharge of 75% will be applied to all monies sent out the country by those individuals who do not have the proper ID.
5. After this one year grace period, it will become illegal to engage in business with illegal aliens (home loans, car loans, car insurance, medical insurance, purchase of property, issuance of credit cards, etc.) above basic retail transactions. And, any and all social and educational services above basic emergency care will cease.
6. Put employers who knowingly employ illegal aliens in jail -for first time offenses.
7. Abolish citizenship at birth. This will prevent "anchor babies". And, it won't "tear families apart" for those that do have babies here as they will all be deported together.

nascar FAN 08/15/2010 5:06:00 PM
the reason illegal immigration is a hot issue now is because our sinking economy. All you hear in the news is how illegals are destroying this country, but why blame them for everything?...... this topic is a political distraction to keep the ordinary american ignorant of what is really happening now. the real state meltdown, our business trade with china, two wars, bankrupt states and cities, unemployment, an unstable financial market, low enrollment and commitment in the armed forces, and finally but not least.... a democrat president.
what is the population of china? come on you should know.
now, what is the population of the united states of america? oh i guess you did not learn that in school either.
what is the best solution? if you want to get rid off them, just do it. it will take two weeks and not 25 years to moves 11 million people from maine to san diego and from washington to brownsville and tell the goodbye at the border.
look at your financial situation now and compared with the one from 8 years ago. who is to blame?
-
Kevin Bailey 08/15/2010 12:59:00 AM
One thing is certain, before anything truly comprehensive can be done the border has to be made secure, using a combination including a fence, manpower and technology. We've done amnesty before, are we supposed to do this every ten years? Don't think so. A card check system has been couched, I probably would be for this but haven't heard enough details. But here's the thing, if the card check system works then that would mean illegals can't get jobs, if they can't find jobs then they'll go back to Mexico, we won't have to round them up and bus them. This seems like the logical outcome if they can't find work. They can go back to Mexico and register for work visa's etc.
Amnesty should not be in the first bill until these other things are done to secure the country. Amnesty is touted by some as a solution but all it offers is more of the same down the road.

The Problem of Immigration: An Economist’s View
The confusion between enforcing the existing laws and making new ones is a major reason that immigration has become a troubling political and social problem. Yet, the protection of borders and changes in immigration laws are two completely different issues. Most Americans are fully cognizant of the humanitarian problems of undocumented workers and their families. However, most Americans also understand that amnesty would turn the rule of law into a joke. The stability and longevity of our social and political system depends on avoiding ad hoc abuses of the rule of law.
The cultural and legal history of the United States supports market-controlled immigration. However, given today’s low transaction and transportation costs, market-controlled immigration (open borders) requires some well-defined constraints on the freedom of entry into the United States. The function of those constraints should be to enhance the economic gains from immigration while preserving the value of US citizenship. Let me briefly discuss two such constraints.
Free entry into the United States would increase the flow of criminals from Mexico. Why? The benefits from committing crimes are greater in the US than in Mexico. At the same time, jails in the United States are more pleasant than jails in Mexico. Open borders would then reduce the costs of moving into the United States. Hence, an important constraint on market-controlled immigration should be that immigrants have no police records.
Illegal immigrants are pulling market wages down. Since labor unions cannot legally organize illegal immigrants, this downward pressure on market wages is sustainable. The resulting reduction in the cost of labor has then slowed down the outsourcing of jobs to foreign countries. Market-controlled immigration without constraints would reverse this unintended consequence of illegal immigration. First, labor unions see new immigrants into the United States as the best hope for recovering their power (e.g. they are a major factor seeking amnesty for illegal workers). To organize immigrants, unions would have to promise higher than their prevailing wages. Second, the families of new immigrants are likely to raise the costs of health care, schools and housing over and above their tax payments. Higher wages and additional social costs of immigrants would then increase the costs of doing business in the United States and encourage outsourcing of jobs.
Instead of green cards, immigrants should initially be given easily renewable work-permits. Renewable work permits would arrest this trend toward the outsourcing of jobs because labor unions would find it difficult if not impossible to organize ‘temporary’ workers, while the families of temporary workers would not be eligible for welfare benefits. Thus, market-controlled immigration, subject to some well-defined constraints, would enhance the economic gains of immigration while preserving the rule of law.

Nothing makes a person detest illegal Mexican invaders more than having to live around them. Any white liberal hypocrite like Patrick Williams who advocates for illegal alien invaders from Mexico obviously lives nowhere near a majority-mexican neighborhood. ALL WHITE LIBERAL HYPOCRITES who work at the Dallas Observer (like Patrick Williams)should be FORCED to live in the worst mexican neighborhoods in Dallas and FORCED to take public transportation as their ONLY MEANS of transportation. Then the WHITE LIBERAL HYPOCRITES at the Dallas Observer will finally be FORCED to come face-to-face with the filth and chaos that are created by their idiotic, naive, nauseatingly earnest, stereotypical-freshman-sociology-course bullshit social engineering policies. Of course we will NEVER hear a response back from the white liberal hypocrite, Patrick Williams, because he is a coward and a wimp and a hypocrite, like all white liberals.

Perhaps we wouldn't have to use ICE to get all of the illegals out of the country. Maybe just putting everything in English, insisting that schools, hospitals, and other government agencies only allow services legal US Citizens will help illegals either leave on their own or realize that they need to assimilate into the American culture. All other race groups do so. The truth is most illegals don't want to leave but they have to. They come here and all they talk about is how much they want to go and most often do. Because they know they can come and go as they please they don't take the time to invest in becoming American. As a result they encourage their legally born American children to stick to their Spanish heritage which forces American businesses to have to hire and retain billingual employees. Anyone who thinks illegals aren't stealing American jobs is closed minded and doesn't look at the effects of the illegals on the American economy. Wait a generation and when your kids can't get jobs because they don't speak English AND Spanish then lets hear what you have to say.
As it stands most English only speaking people are finding a hard time getting jobs in food service, retail, and hospitality because they either can't communicate with the spanish speaking co-workers or they can't communicate with the spanish speaking customers. Do you really think businesses are going to stop taking money from illegals? If anything they hire the children of illegals who are first generation and are billingual.
Get a clue! My father married an illegal- they have two kids born here- my father always points out to me that if my son doesn't learn Spanish now he won't get a job later- well guess what- DISD will not teach my son Spanish but the Spanish speaking people get to be taught in Spanish all the way to the 6th grade. There is something really wrong when he walks into a school that is 97% hispanic, all the teachers are spanish speaking, all the art work is in spanish, and he can't understand 90% of what is said in his American school because the school is run in a foreign language.
You say so what to illegals? Our country has it's own problems. Look at Atlanta you think Dallas is doing much better?

Naive white liberals who cheer on the reduction of the white population in the USA are cheering for their own doom.
Liberalism only really exists and works properly in white-majority-run countries, and liberalism itself is a creation of European-descended whites, so naive white liberal progressives are essentially cheering on the death of their own liberal culture.
Whites are ONLY 8% of the entire world's population, by the way. You are essentially cheering for a slow-motion form of genocide against whites if you advocate for whites in the USA becoming a minority.
If whites become even more of a minority in Texas, what do you think will happen to the Dallas Observer? It will go out of business. The large majority of DO readers are white, and the large majority of businesses that advertise in the DO are owned and patronized, in large part, by whites. The VAST MAJORITY of hipster-crap music reviewed in the DO is made by whites and listened to mostly by whites. The nightclubs advertised in the DO where these mostly white blands playing mostly white music are also patronized mostly by whites. Your own DO runs regular articles featuring the problems caused by the lower greenville ave clubs that are patronized mostly by mexicans/latinos, only you are such wimpy white liberal namby-pambys that you don't have the balls or guts to point out the problem as directly as I have.
So keep it up, Patrick Williams, you naive white libtard douche. You and your kind will be the death of the Dallas Observer and liberalism itself, if you actually get what you so idiotically want.

DLE - That's right. It is the 21st Century...way past time for the Mexican government to take care of its own people so they stop coming over here illegally. Menial tasks will be performed if the illegals leave. In fact, because of the demand for workers when they leave, the wage for the jobs you describe will increase again; thereby, making them more worthwhile. It's called economics - something neither you, the Mexican government, nor American liberals know or care anything about.
-
Jason Hayes 08/13/2010 8:35:00 PM
The reality of it is, you come to this country illegaly and you can easily get: A credit card, auto loans, FREE health care, paid breakfast and lunch for your children at school, Welfare money and plenty of other state and federal assistance.
Compassion...sure I feel sorry for their plight, but I sure as hell don't feel obligated to pay for it, aparently you do.
There is no compromise in this situation, the Mexican government is in a sense forcing their people on us. If they would take care of their own, the people would want to stay in there and not come here creating an overbearing burden on the American taxpayers.
We are forced by our government to provide for those who don't come here to better this country...they only create a similiar environment form which they came. Look at parts of Oak Cliff and East Dallas...looks just like Tijuana and Juarez...homeless dogs roaming the streets and trash everywhere.
The facts are the facts.

Patrick Williams, you wrote, "At the risk of offending some of our readers, here's Buzz's answer: "Oh, shut up."
Mr. Williams, the media needs to SHUT UP or print the truth. We are not going to shut up until our laws are enforced to protect us from Mexico overthrowing our country. We are LEGAL American taxpayers, voters, and citizens, all in one. Obviously, we don't count. Just our tax money.
The illegal aliens need to SHUT UP. They know the risks. I was shocked at the article describing the hard core criminals bringing in illegal aliens. Do you think they are paying American taxes on the money the coyotes and kidnappers are bringing into this country. We need the money to pay for the police and military needed to protect us from them.
When I first moved to Texas twenty years ago, I was asked by the Dallas police, "What's a white woman like you in a car like that doing in this neighborhood?" What???? The neighborhood looked fine to me. It had drug dealers and murderers off Northwest Highway. I was driving a Ford.
Accidents happen, but there are some things we can do to protect ourselves. I finally had to break down and get a security system in my nice quiet neighborhood, because single women had their homes broken into. Crime follows crime. Not in my neighborhood. Keep your crimes and criminals in Mexico.
I don't drive in certain southern neighborhoods that are considered "body dumping grounds." I don't drive to Mexico or walk across the border. I work hard to keep my neighborhood safe. My police department appreciates my efforts.
FYI: There used to be a book entitled, "The Rape Of The Taxpayer." A real book that would be #1 best seller today would be, "The Rape of the Taxpayer By Illegal Aliens and Mexico." Do you want to write that one? If not you, who will have the courage to write that story?

.I am not a Mr. Angry Commenter Person. I am an intelligent, educated, and usually liberal, American citizen. Sending Mexican criminals home won't work. They are the ones, who know how to use the system to bring illegal aliens into this country. They are a revolving door. No where else in the world is there a flood of illegals into a country without retribution. These #1 criminals are hardened, greedy, dangerous felons. Nothing stops them.
We are not out-of-control angry. We are fed up. The trickle has become a flood, an exodus of Mexicans into Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California and spreading into the other states. With Gov. Richardson, I guess they can all move to New Mexico.
These illegals are costing our federal government, states, counties, and cities billions, possibly trillions of dollars. As the anchor babies start to vote, they will implement policies that support their illegal families, that legal American citizens are tired of paying for. This is not my problem, it is yours. The criminal element that is flowing into this country to support this illegal "immigration" is terrifying.
If this isn't a way to take over this country and change our way of life, I don't know what is. It makes the threat of the Al Quaida and Taliban minuscule. Unfortunately, our country has been bled dry with our illegal war. We cannot afford this behavior. The cost alone to our police and prisons is staggering. No one seems to address the real cost to this country. It is sugar coated to say what it would cost to export them or that they are taking jobs no one wants. That is a red herring lie.
Speak the truth. Give us the real facts. If you think we are angry now, it's going to get worse until this problem is dealt with. Instead of getting worse, it needs to be solved. We need our federal government to enforce the laws on the books and protect our country and its citizens NOW. We've tired of waiting, and we're broke.

Allright, I've been holding this in for the longest time now, and after reading what some poeple are saying it's just impossible to hold it in anymore. YOU say that we're here to take your jobs, well let me ask you something, are you willing to work 12 hour periods under the damn sun picking up vegetables or whatever? Or would you want to work ni a nice office with AC? I doubt you will choose the first option. Let me ask you something else, have you looked at the people under the bridges and on corners? They're begging for money.. What race are they? they are mostly caucasian or african american, if you see a hispanic person standing on a corner is because he is looking for a job. We take that risk of being deported every damn day just to support our families. Tell me, would you do that? I doubt it.
And if you really want us out of this beautiful country, why do you not hesitate when it comes to singing us up to serve your country when it comes to the selective service system?
People, open your eyes, this is an injustice being committed here, it's the 21st century now and this shouldnt be happening. You have the wrong picture of immigrants, we come here to be more prosperous and help this country grow as a whole, not to what you claim "take our jobs". please. be more realistic and face the fact that YOU won't perform many of these jobs.

Patrick Williams wasted our time again. He left out these are not educated workers. The vast majority of these illegals will abuse our system and will cost taxpayers fo life. The observer is a bunch of liberal pricks.

If you want to stop the corruption germinating in Washington and state assemblies, throw out all--INCUMBENTS--that have a bad history. (Get rid of the politician-attorney's as there the worst.) Before you vote in the midterm elections probe their policy records on the Internet. All those who are pro-amnesty need to be retired from office or pro-illegal immigration as they will bankrupt the taxpayer and promote overpopulation growth. Just go outside and look at our crumbling roads, bridges, tunnels and the quality of our drinking water and failing sewer system. Look to all those incumbents that have made millions on so called free trade and dump them as well. There is--NO FREE TRADE--as we are subjected to tariffs and taxes when we export goods to foreign countries; they can import their cheap imports, that why half our manufacturers have closed doors and thousands of industrial properties remain vacant.
Throw out all politicians who are assisting with the outsourcing of jobs and bringing in medium skilled labor that lowers our workers’ wages. Build the--REAL--double fence at the border and place 6000 permanent troops to detain illegal aliens or shoot anybody bringing drugs into America. If we protect our borders like Israel, we wouldn't need our military in foreign land. GET INVOLVED AND READ ABOUT THE UNPARALLELED CORRUPTION AMONGST THE RANKS OF DEMOCRAT-LIBERALS AND REPUBLICANS AT EVERY LEVEL OF GOVERNMENT. THEY GET ALL THE PERKS AND IT WOULDN'T BE NICE TO SAY "WHAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE GET WHO PAY THERE SALARIES?” Something is very sick when (FAIRS) report says there are 8.5 million illegal aliens working, but 9.5 million of American workers are jobless.
While citizens-residents are being intimidated by the IRS, to pay the support of illegal instant- citizen babies, while your family breadwinner has the house foreclosed on, his car repossessed and now standing at a food bank. Become more aware of what's happening around you, as the fat cats in Washington extort your taxes. You DON’T SEE THE LAWMAKERS GOING WITHOUT, DO YOU? Fight back this November and throw all the outlaw politicians out. www.judicialwatch.org is inherent in Promoting Integrity, Transparency and Accountability in Government, Politics and the Law. Observe copies of FOIA (Government) documents about secret meetings and other outrageous discussions that have a bearing on your future. www.numbersusa.com is your internet informer on the immigration records of current politicians, the expenditures and politics of the illegal immigration and the annexation of our lands. In conclusion demand that those in power to do their duty by calling the Washington switchboard at 202-224-3121 .
Without your help--NOTHINGS GOING TO CHANGE.? Don't vote for them again, or your taxes will be either squandered on pork, go in their pockets or vanish like the billions sent to Afghanistan or Iraq that went AWOL.

Reality_Check 08/13/2010 2:10:00 AM
Comprehensive immigration reform is compromise? A compromise for whom? Sure the illegals get Amnesty and illegals employers get cheap labor to reward them for breaking the law. But what do the American people get?
Higher taxes, more crime, lower wages, congestion, failed schools, overburdened emergency rooms, ecological ruin, over population, etc. etc. Plus a new tidal wave of Illegals to start the Amnesty Cycle all over again!
That’s a compromise? Really? A compromise for the greedy, lawless and sleazy to be sure. But the American people… what do they get? The same thing as the 1986 Amnesty…..The Shaft..
Oh yeh, they get a promise that the borders will be enforced and illegal employers punished. Someday. A promise that have been repeatedly made and repeatedly broken each & ever time and encourages the next Tidal wave of illegal aliens to cross our border for the Welfare while waiting for the next Amnesty!.
Indeed, the current regime already claims that our border are secure and employers are being punished (perhaps one in a million). Is rewarding illegal aliens and criminal employers really going to change any of this? In a word, no.
So what would real comprehensive immigration reform look like? Control the borders (all of them) now. Make it effectively impossible for illegals to work in the U.S. Abolish birthright citizenship. Implement full interior enforcement by allowing every police officer to arrest illegals where probable cause exists.
Why use local police? Many reasons. However, two reasons stand out. First, local police as a practical matter generally know who the illegals are. Not in every case of course. However, being an illegal alien isn’t that subtle a thing. Illegals typically have obviously fake IDs or no IDs at all. They don’t speak English. They can’t answer reasonable questions about where they were born. When did they obtain legal status? Where? This is all standard police work and police officers know how to do it.
The second reason for using local law enforcement is simply numbers. We have around 700,000 police officers in the U.S. If each police officer removed 2 illegals a year, the illegal population would decline by 1.4 million a year. In a few years all of the illegals would be gone. In practice once serous enforcement started the vast majority of illegals would leave on their own with no assistance from law enforcement.
The advocates of “comprehensive” immigration reform are really saying “trust us, give us the Amnesty and cheap labor we grace and we WILL enforce the law in the future”.
However, the proof that they are lying is that they bitterly oppose all efforts to enforce our immigration laws right now and have spent the last 20 year successfully doing the same thing.
However, even if the U.S. is not going to enforce our immigration laws, why reward illegal aliens and illegal employers with Amnesty. Where is the upside in enabling illegals to be a greater burden on our society?

I can think of a few other things that used to be illegal, too...women and minorities having any kind of rights, folks of different races marrying each other, being able to buy clothes on a Sunday. The list could go on and on. Just because something is illegal doesn't mean it should be or even that it always will be. If some law is stupid or unjust, the WWJDers of the world eventually see to it that the law is changed. I'm counting on it in this situation, too.

PW,
It's been a few years since I've written to lament the weakness of liberalism's fussing about the war on drugs. Now I want to give you praise for a couple of howlers (i.e., induced loud laugh response) in the last few weeks; and to fuss about your willingness to tolerate a certain amount of racial/ethnic profiling in the w.o.t. I'll admit that when Michael Kinsley and later, Christopher Hitchens, lamented the boneheadedness of pulling little old ladies out of line for a random search that I had to grudgingly admit there was a certain amount of sense to their complaints. You, taking pretty much* the same view, must have crossed my authoritarian-government protest activator permiter. The behavior of the feds after 9-11 in asking Muslims to "volunteer" to help track down potential terrorists has a lingering Big Brother flavor.
Keep 'em coming.

If I am not mistaken, the Mexican govt was quick 2 go 2 Congress and gave a piece of their mind abt illegal immigration, but never blame themselves 4 their own people. HOW DARE THEY 4 DISRESPECTING THE US LEGISLATION!!!if it is US govt going there NO WAY they will DO THE SAME!!! Mexico did not even send help during Katrina, but instead the Israelis sent their help- a long distance HELP...so where is the compassion there??? and expect us to give special treatment 2 Mexicans, GET OVER IT!!!Fiscally, it takes more govt expenditure 4 20 years 2 let them stay here 2 legalize them 4 immigration reform than 2 deport them. If other countries, they are already long gone and their govt has no saying in that, reality check!!!! U must be biased and narrow-minded coz U probably have never travelled outside the US and Mexico zone or maybe U are married to one or U have good friends who are voicing their concerns 2 you, but in the end the AMERICANS get the final sayings...Furthermore, try staying in MEXICO and see if they have your hospitality...I heard that they are not as nice as their people over here..it's survival mode baby, they have 2 be nice here 2 survive. Even so most of them here have already attitudes like defying our govt's law and our PRESIDENT!!!

Why is the Mexican government never held responsible for the failure to serve their people?
I don't want my country turned into the Disney version of Mexico. Change is hard. Ask our forefathers who overthrew the British. Ask our forefathers who lost the Civil War. Ask our forefathers who came here legally, learned English, assimilated and built the country. Just don't ask anyone who is unwilling to change their own country in favor of breaking into another one.

How unfair of you, limiting your compassion to those coming in from our southern border. what about all the hungry, desperate people from the rest of the world who would do just about anything to come the the USA? Why don't you round them up and bring them here too?? There is a reason we have a system to enter this country. Our support system is overburdened. How many of the hungry, desperate illegal people are staying at your house??

I have compassion for the peolpe I served my country for Americans not "ILLEGAL" Mexicans. I will support anyone who wants to join us "LEGALLY". These Illegals can come and go as they want, but I have to have a Passport to travel and all my ID's have to be good or I am detained!! Why is it that these criminals are immune to the Laws of our country. If you think anyother way you are truely out of touch with reallity.
We can remove all of these illegals much cheaper than your misguided article suggests. Google "Operation W_T B__CK and you will see what the real leadrers of our country at the time did for our country.

Right... all illegal immigrants need to be shipped home, pronto, regardless of hardship or injustice. Reality check.... I'm out of a job with 4 kids and bills. I am Texan by birth. Do I get free medical care, no. Do I have to pay taxes, yes. If I get pulled over by the police do I have to show proof of license and insurance, take a sobriety test if asked, hell yes. Do I cane, no. Its the law. Feel sorry for the illegals here no, feel for the tax payers having to fork out their hard earned money to keep the illegals coming back.
The outraged apes are in Washington. Cowards. If its the law, then stand by the "Americans" and enforce it or let us.

Reality 08/12/2010 12:27:00 AM
Dear Libtard Douches:
It's Mexico's responsiblity to take care of their own people, not ours. What part of that reality do you not understand? It's their responsibility to have compassion for their own people, not ours.
And, we, least of all, should be the ones having our lives and tax dollars compromised for the sake of their lawbreakers. Mexico, Guatamala, Honduras, Costa Rica, etc. are the ones who should be compromising to make better lives for their people, not us.
This is the United States of America, not the United States of America, Central America, South America, and the Carribean. Libtard douchebags.

why do we except the Illegal immigrants thank they have rights like the legal people like myself...........maybe if they learned how to read and speak English, they might understand what Illegal means......we want to save money, so open up all the borders....why have them if we are not going to enforce our laws.........makes me to want to move to another country, but i am on social security disability....too poor and too sick of all the crap our government feeds us and we cannot get a raise for 2 years........sick of it all.................

Mexican don't belong no where but mexico. We don't need no more race mixing, whites and blacks living together is barely making it, now we want to spice the melting pot up. If mexicans are legalized to become citizens then we need to legalize weed.

Another Mr Angry Comentator 08/11/2010 11:20:00 PM
Reality, compassion, compromise... WHY don't you understand, WHY should we give up our land, jobs, tax dollars and hospital beds for the, as you said "several million hungry, desperate, hard-working people will run almost any risk to live here." You are advocating the demise of America! America, the melting pot, where LEGAL IMMIGRANTS came here to start a life, now that were here, and we cannot take any more what are we to do? Give it all to ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, HELL NO!!! You are seting up a scenario for the illegals to do to America what the white man did to the Native American Indians, wipe them out. I say NO!! I say stop the border crossings FIRST and deport ALL, minimize tax money spent on Illegals at all costs!!! Other than keeping them out, let them go through Ellis Island ( legally)!!!

AZCowboy 08/11/2010 11:15:00 PM
"But according to ICE, we held deportation proceedings for 387,000 illegal immigrants in 2009, and so far have sent home 294,230 people in fiscal year 2010, mostly those with criminal backgrounds."
That's 300,000 we managed to apprehend, out of 10 million illegals. Simple math indicates that is 1 out of 30 illegals is a criminal and wouldn't be eligible to immigrate anyway. And those are only the ones we managed to catch and deport. There are the remaining 29 out of 30 that we have no idea who they are, where they are or what they are doing. How many of those are criminals also (besides the fact they are already criminals for violating our borders)? The truth is that you have no idea. But your own posted statistic indicates that from a small sampling, the criminality amongst them is alarmingly high. And if you really look at it - 3 out of 4 that were deported had criminal records. Which provides and excellent indication that you are incorrect in your biased assumption that the majority of them are "desperate, hard-working people". Thanks for proving that in your own editorial.

AZCowboy 08/11/2010 11:04:00 PM
"The Pew Hispanic Center estimates there are around 11 million unauthorized immigrants in the States. That number has recently declined for the first time in memory by about 1 million. A source at Immigration and Customs Enforcement told Buzz that stricter enforcement is one reason for the exodus."
And stricter enforcement in the workplace, stringent enforcement at the border and harsh penalties for violators (like prison terms involving labor building a wall along the border) would have the remaining 10 million emigrating within a year or two if we streamlined the process.
Actually, you answered your own question.

MES 08/11/2010 9:02:00 PM
Why does the job and budget of $63 Trillion have to be ICE and ICE alone? Last I checked in the US we have multiple law enforcement agencies, not just one federal police agency. Law enforcement for all other laws, with the apparent exception of immigration, can be enforced by all law enforcement agencies. A small town police officer can make a Federal arrest in the US Law Enforcement system. By delegating responsibility to one agency, then your hypothetical of 25 years is correct. But that hypothetical is not the way things work, or should work. If the “local yokel” makes an arrest for Illegal Immigration, all of the sudden it’s racial profiling?
With better language, the Arizona legislation is the way illegal immigration enforcement should work.
Let me give you two hypotheticals:
1.) A Guatemalan citizen is in this country with with an expired work visa. The Guatemalan is pulled over for speeding by a city police officer. When asked for identification, the Guatemalan provides a fake work visa which is grounds for resisting arrest. The Guatemalan is arrested by the city officer for resisting arrest and later deported.
2.) A German citizen is in this country with an expired work visa. The German is pulled over for speeding by a city police officer. When asked for identification, the German provides a fake work visa which is grounds for resisting arrest. The German is arrested by the city officer for resisting arrest and later deported.
Exactly where is the racial profiling in those two situations? It is the Hispanic Americans (Legal US Citizens by the grace of God) that are racially profiling THEMSELVES.
And for what?

Neha 08/11/2010 8:31:00 PM
Why should Mexican's get leniency on illegal immigration?
My parents came from India and gained entry in to this country legally. Had they tried to get here illegally and been caught, they would have been deported promptly and maybe suffered legal repercussions. Do you think the economic situation and living conditions are any better in India than in Mexico? I don't understand why Mexicans should have some sort of preferential treatment just because the country is closer to the US. More importantly, there are legal ways to live here. If a robber breaks his foot while attempting to steal from a mansion, he can't ask the owner of the mansion for the cost of his hospital bills and it doesn’t matter how poor he is or how loaded the mansion is. It’s one thing to say that we need to reform the laws but it’s another thing to say that we should forgive the people that knowingly and willfully break the laws of our country as the first act of being on our soil.
