Come hear a true, original Texan voice speak when The Dallas Peace Center brings Jim Hightower to Irving Thursday. Hightower, "America's most popular populist," radio commentator, writer, public speaker, author and former Texas Agriculture Commissioner, believes that the true political spectrum is not right to left but top to bottom and has become a leading national voice for the part of the public who no longer find themselves within shouting distance of the Beltway. He broadcasts daily radio commentaries that are carried in more than 150 stations and on the web. He publishes a populist political newsletter, The Hightower Lowdown, which now has more than 135,000 subscribers, and his newspaper column is distributed nationally. In his latest book, Swim Against the Current: Even a Dead Fish Can Go With the Flow, he discusses the ways that individuals and companies can be both successful and socially responsible and provides tangible steps to escape "corporate tentacles" to become catalysts for change. Hightower, known in Texas and far beyond for his commitment and humor, is sure to be fired up for what promises to be an energetic night of laughter and inspiration at the Irving Arts Center, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd., 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Admission is $35. Visit dallaspeacecenter.org for more information.
