Opening the Hatch to Competition

We love Hatch. We're not talking tax-evading, naked Richard Hatch--we're talking hot Hatch chile roasted over an open flame and immediately thrown on a burger, diced into salsa or just straight shoved in mouth. The 15th Anniversary Hatch Chile Festival is in full swing at Central Market and this year, as a finale to the event, they're hosting a Hatch Quick Fire Challenge, Top Chef-style. Two chefs will face off in a battle of hot, Hatchy awesomeness and only one will emerge Hatch-ily victorious. Both chefs are encouraged to bring their own unique cooking styles to these dishes: Hatch chiles and chicken thighs, Hatch chiles and shrimp, and Hatch chiles and watermelon. Quick prep time and minimal ingredients are a must. Come to this class and leave with six Hatch recipes that are easy to prepare and even easier to scarf down. From 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, see Chef Allen Smith (Chef/Intstructor at the Institute for Culinary Education in New York) face off against Chef Daniel Stewart (Plano Central Market Executive Chef) in the Hatch Quick Fire Challenge at Central Market in Plano (320 Coit Road). Tickets are $50 a pop. Call 469-241-8389 or visit centralmarket.com.
Tue., Aug. 31, 6:30 p.m., 2010
