This entire article, especially beginning with the shocking recollection of the little boy seeing the shot up car, is total 'spin'! Never making it clear who and why the bullet holes got in the car in the first place, ( drug cartel wars, I am sure! ) we are led to feel sorry for illegals. The dots are not connecting. Okay, so we're supposed to FEEL SORRY for illegals? No!
As for the little blurb at the top under the AMONGST US sign:
The Constitution of the US. ALREADY protects citizens from profiling and unlawful search and seizure, regardless of AZ trying, just like TEXAS, to get the FEDS attention for help with illegals.. Except for drug and mood altered crowd, the crowd who doesn't even know or care what this country was really founded on, the Dallas Observer plays to a vastly shrinking crowd - shrinking because even Castro, even Europe is seeing their own demise and admitting that socialism and the tenants of liberal philosophy spell - E P I C F A I L !
As for immigration policy? Every time we try to implement one, liberals make it a political football. Here's a policy, stop coming here illegally; if you're here illegally, get out on your own accord, SEAL AND SECURE THE BORDERS and let Congress get it done!
-
Michael Gowling 09/16/2010 1:11:00 AM
You know pointing out that the country of Mexico is a cesspool of crime does not really make me want to invite more illegals to the State.
On the contrary it just reinforces the general consensus that Mexico is a old, corrupt and failing country that the United States needs to protect its citizens from.

this is so sad, mexico has always been a third world type of country, but this puts it at it's worst! the real victims are the children and these devils aka drug lords should be all given death penalty for tarnishing the future of these kids. so when i hear that good families try to come over to the US and make a better life for themselves, i don't blame them nor am i against it, this is not there fault, it's the damn goverments fault. maybe this will help people see why all these innocent people want to come to the US and live a normal life. we are so blessed to be in a great country such as the US, lets give others a chance people, stop being some damn nazis!!!!!!!!!!

This article is nothing more than a propaganda piece and is only surpassed on the BS meter by the idiots who think calling people "racists" somehow whitewashes the facts about the deficiencies about the Mexican culture. The Mexican government surpasses even our own for greed and corruption so we dont want Mexicans coming here telling us how to run things.....your mexican way sucks or you wouldnt be coming here.

Emily 09/15/2010 6:20:00 AM
I second that Keon.
It's unfortunate that humanity doesn't act with complete kindness and do the right thing (help other when they're struggling). However, historically speaking, nature doesn't allow humanity (as a whole) to function that way. We must first fend for ourselves before we can help others. Yes the capitalistic America veers away from those ideals which is why we have gotten ourselves stuck in the middle east. However, it's not our duty to protect the people who are not rightfully allowed to be in the country. And, yes, it sucks! It sucks we can't spend the billions of dollars we waste on oil to help others. But, the problem doesn't lie with the lack of America's "humanity" and their need to help in this particular situation. The problem lies within immigration and this distorted idea that Mexicans DESERVE to live there because it was once their own land and it was "stolen" from them. That's complete BS and if any educated person were to understand the history of Texas and Mexico, the answer is clear. Any illegal immigrant should not be allowed to stay in a country and be supported by that particular country....yet another way America is billions of dollars in the hole.

notagain3 09/14/2010 3:43:00 PM
TO CONCERNED: YOU KEEP YOUR IGNORANCE TO YOURSELF! WE STOLE THEIR LAND, WHAT NONSENSE.

Keon Wimsatt 09/14/2010 2:14:00 PM
The "Amongst U.S." banner at the top of this article is misleading and one of the most popular distortions of history regarding the southwest acquisition. It is true that the southwest and western territories did belong to the Mexican government and had Mexican nationals along with Native Americans living there under the Mexican government's jurisdiction but that land was both won as the spoils of war and purchased for what today's currency would equal $487,000,000 dollars. How can you "steal" something that you paid fair market value for after you have already defeated an enemy? That amount was half the sum offered to Mexico for the same territories before the Mexican-American War began. All of this happened over 200 plus years ago and acting now as if Mexican nationals have the right to be in those states without documentation is absurd. THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT SIGNED THE TREAT OF HIDALGO AND CEDED THOSE "STATES" TO THE UNITED STATES AS A FINAL SOLUTION TO THE HOSTILITIES OF THE MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR. A WAR IN WHICH THE LARGER NATION WITH THE LARGER ARMY (MEXICO)LOST ON THE BATTLEFIELD. Saying that Mexico still owns that land or Mexican nationals have full rights there is akin to purchasing a house and then having the previous owner return decades later and say "my family originally owned this house, so I can do what I like there". Doesn't that seem stupid?
Maybe if the Mexican people became just as determined to get rid of the gangs as they are to "get north" then something could be done about the violence in Juarez and other cities and states throughout their country. America has its' own criminals to deal with on top of dealing with those who have crossed our borders illegally and committed crimes within the interior of our country. I disagree with the President's assessment of Mexico today and agree with Sec. Clinton that Mexico is today's Colombia.

Lakewooder and eddie appear to be the only people with half a brain who have provided intellegent responses to this article. I am concerned that we as a people in America have such lack of regard for our fellow humans on this planet. We all need each other in some way or another. It doesn't matter if you are Mexican, Haitian, Iranian, Chinese or any other race of people. We all live on this wonderful planet called Earth and NOTHING will EVER change in this world until we learn that kindness and a willingness to help ANYONE else, who is less fortunate than yourself, should become second nature to breathing. We can all make a difference if we can get past our own prejudices and biases about other cultures and races of people. The children that are caught up in this war zone called Juarez Ciudad, Mexico have to call it home because they have no choice. So what is the harm in showing a little compassion for their plight. We Americans are so blessed to be in this country ("the land of opportunity"), and we have forgotten that most of this country WAS Mexico; We stole THEIR land! And we stole the rest of this land from the Native Americans. So how dare you, narrow minded Americans, make comments about the characters of others who were our victims from the start. If you want to make a difference, keep your ignorance to yourselves and lend a hand in the war against drugs and other inhumanities against man in THIS country and abroad then maybe, just maybe things will begin to change. Give kindness a try. You may be suprised at the results. We need to help our Mexican neighbors, not put your foot on their necks while they are down.

It was difficult to read this article to see what people only a few miles from our borders are going through. We Americans could legalized Marijuana and this would end this war it seems. I know there are those that don't believe in it but it is no worse than alcohol and in some cases better. Its up to you, but it semms to me that we are once again mistreating others for our own gain!

Juarez this was one of the shining jewels in the Bush crown for alot of American companies shut down operations in the U.S. built factories south of the boarder From office equipment to washing machines and refrigerators all made in Mexico for about fifty cent a hour . And with all the export traffic of these items it was easy to hide drugs amongst the items being shipped north now the drug lords have taken over .

EFMohammedMartinez 09/11/2010 3:25:00 AM
Unfortunately the drug cartels are attacking the wrong people. Instead of killing their own Mexican citizens, they should actually be attacking those American home grown "civilian" white racist MINUTEMEN TERRORIST vigilantes who are know to murder undocumented immigrants. 9 year old Brisenia Flores was murdered i8n cold blood by Shawna Ford, a MINUTEMEN TERRORIST member not too long ago. ...That's the real enemy whom they should be focusing on!

Stop being racist, it is immoral. This problem is American in the making - both Mexicans and Americans are to blame. The point of the article is 1) to profile the effect the violence is having on children. If you don't get that then there is something wrong with you. And 2) to get people thinking that this problem is one that Americans should be addressing. Mexico is failing from within. Mexicans need to fix it, as difficult as that will be, and nothing short of a revolution will end the corruption and crimiality taking place there. The US role is to help Mexico and Mexicans fix this country, stop the hateful rhethoric and use that energy to do something about it. It is everybody's problem.

Statistics:
20,000 die each year in USA for the use of illegal drugs (consumers)
9,000 die in Mex each year in Mex trying to control the suplying channels.
Solution is simple: Don't consume drugs
-
Carlos 09/10/2010 6:19:00 PM
Do you know how many deaths per year are in USA due use of illegal drugs?, 20,000. In México 28,000 for a period of 3 years. Drugs and it;s collateral problems are the result of the people who buys and deman its, who?, USA unfortunately.

The only thing Hillary Clinton desires is to rule the US through her connections with the UN,consequently what this entails is the invasion of our beloved neighbor,MEXICO..The reasons are simple, complete the eradication of the borders, allowing for free and protected travel from Mexico to the US, and to sieze the drug dealers power and money for her own agenda...:)

FPapiSalOC 09/10/2010 4:32:00 PM
We are only trying to keep illegal aliens out not legal immigrants.
-
Icmcintosh 09/10/2010 3:17:00 PM
I'm curious about the author's intent. Does the author think the reader should be doing something about the problem he is describing? Why not publish this article about mexicans in mexico in a mexican newspaper? That way the message about the plight of some of its people would be make clear to mexicans and they can take steps to remedy the problem. Otherwise, the author sounds like someone who thinks america should interfere in other countries economic problems.
-
Stormi 09/10/2010 1:27:00 PM
Sorry this happens THERE. BUT I'd rather they have all the illegals there than to keep feeding and taking care of their kids here in our country and paying for their medical needs and the illegals medical needs when they ILLEGALLY CROSS THE BORDER. For me, the ARIZONA law should be TEXAS LAW.. and quite frankly I'm all for using forceful action to prevent illegals into our country.
-
PA 09/10/2010 1:58:00 AM
I was wondering why the Observer doesnt start to publish totally in Spanish since it seems you have become such a proponent for the country south of our border. The Observer used to be relevant now every week it is about illegals (get that illegal) or about the plight that the Mexicans have created in their country(Get that,is everyone in Mexico a victim?).Are you wishing the US becomes Mexico?
-
jacinta 09/09/2010 11:54:00 PM
People have been trying hard to clean up what is going on over there, but there is no let up anytime soon. Its been like that for a long time because there was a mayor in Mexico who tried to help clean up and that didn't even help and that was recently. I don't remember the name, but it was in the paper. Drug cartels got him.

This is very sad. I grew up in Juarez. I use to stay out playing til very late hours with no fear. There use to be alot of tourist right when you walked into Juarez Down Town. It use to be fun City. The Expo Juarez which is the fair. Was something I use to look foward every year. These people have killed my family and friends. They've taken everything Juarensez have! and what is the goverment doing? they send soilders who are the Same or worst. I've seen it happen. it is very sad that there's no childhood to go back to. I hate it. I just hope that one day things go back to normal. You can't even go to the authorities it's more like save your self and family. I miss the real Juarez!!!Cd. Juares es Numero Uno, Cd. Juares es el Number 1.. that use to be a true song. It's sad to know that there people terrorizing the community have no heart or regrets.

Great story, just wanted to point one thing out.
The law in Arizona actually states that police may only ask for proof of legal status IF that individual has already been stopped by police for another illegal act. Police will not simply see a hispanic person sitting at a restaurant and go up to them and harass them, THAT would be unjust.

Wake up to Reality, NAIVE WHIT 09/09/2010 7:31:00 PM
Practically every single one of the stoned, drunk, coked-out, or otherwise heroin-using people I meet and see on a daily basis are Latinos/Mexicans. Just look at the death toll of the "cheese" heroin problem in DISD. Every single cheese user who overdosed and died was a Latino. Don't try to pretend like it is all just evil drug-using Whites creating this drug market, and that the otherwise "innocent" Mexican drug-smugglers would be out of business if those bad Whiteys stopped buying Mexican-produced drugs. There are TONS of drug-using Mexicans/Latinos here in Dallas, and a huge part of the Mexican drug-smuggler's market is OTHER MEXICANS. Wake up to reality you naive white bleeding-heart libtards.
-
Lakewooder 09/09/2010 6:54:00 PM
Mexico is a wonderful country but the United States appetite for drugs has created a nightmare for its citizens. The Mexican government could capture or kill every single cartel member, from top to bottom, but the void to fill a market valued at 80 billion/year would be replaced instantly. Like prohibition, the drug war will never be won. Hopefully our country will one day accept the fact that a large percentage of our population enjoy recreational drugs, and that nothing can be done to change this lifestyle.
Oh, and I'd like to share a little nugget of wisdom with the majority of those who posted to this story. The United States has plenty of uneducated, back woods, cross-eyed, banjo playin', racist, dumbass hillbillies. Please do the rest of us a favor: Don't breed.

Josey531 09/09/2010 6:12:00 PM
Why would we want this in the US? In Dallas? Why not focus on Somalia, and why they become pirates? Poverty and violence is all over the world. Why just report on the corruption of Mexico. Places like Pakistan are now experiencing the Taliban violence? Is there a difference? Follow the money trail.
If you drive to Oak Cliff on west Jefferson, you see what South Dallas means when it says the money is not spent there. Code enforcement is no where? lol Dallas City budget money is not allocated for their neighborhoods? Nada. The streets are invisible.
Mexicans need to fix their own country, and not invade the USA with their poverty, ignorance, drugs, violence, and breaking our laws and using our benefits. It is bankrupting our cities, counties, states, and nation.
I don't know who is buying these drugs, which is our problem. Mexico will not allow our investigators to enter Mexico to track these drug criminals down. They won't clean up their drug violence problem. And round and round we go in a cat and mouse game. The more illegals we get, the more crime we get. The violence and violation of our laws is following the Mexican invasion into this country. We are not going to aborb ANOTHER 20 million illegals. Mexico and the US have to find another solution than amensty. It is not going to happen. It will be political suicide in this country.

Oakcliff Hip versus Lil Mexico 09/09/2010 4:24:00 PM
I seriously doubt the "Oakcliff hip" are willing to allow more imigrants in, then they wouldn't have established their own little place of heaven in Oakcliff. Unless you want to make it Lil Mexico/Oakcliff hipsters. Lil Mexico would MOVE you hipsters out, fast and in a hurry. You would have your Taqueria, dollar stores, thrift stores, weekend disorganized yard sales, Rancho stores, Patron pizza, trash everywhere, taco stands, etc. Did you really mean what you say Brittnay?

PLIGHT OF THE WORLD 09/09/2010 4:04:00 PM
Learn something new, plight of the world? It's right here in our face in Dallas. People are more aware of what's going on in the world now than ever before. So who does DO cater to? May be DO should print some of these articles in Spanish for the Mexican population.

Learn to Spell 09/09/2010 3:37:00 PM
Brittany - learn how to spell "racist" you sanctimonious naive bitch.
-
Brittnay 09/09/2010 2:26:00 PM
Why do rascists read the Dallas Observer anyway? It's not like you actually want to learn something new about the world around you or understand the plight of anyone else. Mexico isn't a shit hole because of Mexicans, its a shit hole because no one will even attempt to legalize drugs, thus making it more advantageous for people to deal in drugs than to actually work. You might have realized that if you were fully functional and could understand the points made in this article. And I don't think anyone sympathizes with the drug dealers, but with all the vitcims of these crimes. And maybe whites like you who are intolerant of other cultures would move away, but most people who live in Oak Cliff and "hip" places are willing to allow more immigrants. Not to mention, the Dallas Observer doesn't cater to rascist close-minded individuals like yourselves, they do cater to a more liberal audience who goes outside of their comfort zone every now and then without their guns.

Pot-smoking libtards love thei 09/09/2010 12:23:00 AM
I have it all figured out now. The naive white libtards at the Dallas Observer are all pot-heads, so they sympathize with their pot-smuggling drug dealers from Mexico. Put down your pot pipes, libtards. You will see the unpleasant facts of reality much better.
-
NAIVE WHITE LIBTARDS at the DA 09/09/2010 12:17:00 AM
Why do the naive white libtards at the Dallas Observer force another bleeding-heart Mexican scumbag article on us every week? Do you know what would happen in even more Mexican illegals move to Dallas? More whites will move away, and the Dallas Observer ITSELF will eventually GO OUT OF BUSINESS, sooner than later. Illegal trashy Mexicans don't patronize any of your advertisers or listen to any of your shitty white hipster Pitchfork Media "music". Illegal Mexicans don't go to any of your white yuppie libtard bars in "The Bishop Arts District" and they sure as hell don't even bother to pick up a Dallas Observer because most of them can't even read in Spanish, let alone in English. Wake the fuck up to the destruction of your civilization, NAIVE WHITE LIBTARDS at THE DALLAS OBSERVER. The NAIVE WHITE LIBTARDS at the DALLAS OBSERVER should all be FORCED to live in the most illegal-Mexican populated neighborhood in Dallas and FORCED to take public transportation as your only means of transportation.

Another article for the bottom of my bird cage.
