King of the Slum

Slumdog Millionaire won Best Picture and Best Original Song at the Academy Awards in 2009. It's now 2010, and the film's music has only gained popularity since. The award-winning song "Jai Ho," or "be victorious" when translated into English, was composed by AR Rahman exclusively for Slumdog. Even if you haven't seen the film, it's likely you have heard the song. In 2009, the Pussycat Dolls teamed up with Rahman to release an English version of the award-winning song and reached No. 15 on the U.S Hot 100. Turns out you don't have to watch Slumdog or even YouTube "Jai Ho" to experience the phenomenon. AR Rahman is touring the world this summer with Jai Ho Concert: The Journey Home, and he'll stop here in Dallas 8 p.m. this Saturday at the American Airlines Center, where'll you'll experience choreographed dance, acrobatics and a Hindu concert experience. Still not convinced it's worth seeing? It takes nine buses and eight 18-wheeler trucks to transport all humans, technology, set design and instruments. It's no doubt going to be one of the most talked about shows of the summer. Tickets are $39 to $1,000. Visit ticketmaster.com.
Sat., Sept. 18, 8 p.m., 2010
