Glen Campbell is best known as a country-pop singer with a knack for plaintive, almost confessional songs like "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" and "Wichita Lineman." but he was also a much in demand session guitarist and bassist throughout the 1960s, playing on the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds and even the legendary instrumental hit "Tequila" by The Champs. When Glen went solo, his knack for interpreting melancholic numbers by Jimmy Webb, Neil Diamond and the like secured him a residency on the charts. He had a television variety show called The Glen Campbell Good Time Hour that ran from 1969 to 1972 and--as was common back then--had a list of famous guest stars that still makes the head swim today. He's best remembered however for his 1975 smash hit "Rhinestone Cowboy," an autobiographical song that still leaves the listener with a twinge of longing inside. Now Glen is bringing his amazing talent to town and he'll be playing some of his most famous hits backed up by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra 8 p.m. Saturday at the Bass Performance Hall. Tickets are $29 to $78. Visit fwsymphony.org.
