Dia de los Muertos (or Day of the Dead) may sound dreary, but it's actually a celebration. The Mexican holiday inspires festive remembrance of the dead by way of folk art, food and storytelling. The Modern Shop at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is getting into the spirit, so to speak, by hosting an altar (ofrenda) featuring Saul Moreno figures from the museum collection, as well as personal offerings for the returning souls of lost loved ones. The shop will also feature a selection of Dia de los Muertos-themed decor and gifts, as well as pan(bread) de los muertos and marigold garlands to eat and wear while browsing. The celebration continues through October 31. Parking for and admission to the Museum Shop is free. Visit themodern.org.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Oct. 5. Continues through Oct. 31, 2010
