A cowgirl is more than a woman who ropes and rides and dons a ten gallon hat. Cowgirl poetess Helen Odom had a thing or two to say about these headstrong "Texas Wimmen:" "Thay allus does ac-com-plish/Whatever thay tries ter do. Ain't nuthin' never hard." Shaky grammar aside, old Helen had a point. Cowgirls from Texas and beyond recognized by the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame run ranches, race horses, and have made rulings on the U.S. Supreme Court. The Heart of the West Art Exhibition, an all-female art show, celebrates the independent cowgirl spirit. The exhibition features Western themes expressed in bronze, sculpture, oil, watercolor, pencil and other mediums. The exhibit runs through December 5 at the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, 1720 Gendy St. in Fort Worth. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m Tuesdays through Sundays. Tickets are $8 to $10. The artwork will go on sale October 27 at the annual gala. For more information, call 817-336-4475 or visit cowgirl.net.
Tuesdays-Sundays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Oct. 1. Continues through Dec. 5, 2010
