Your Baseball Season Guide to Pre- and Post-Game Eats and Drinks in Arlington
By Lauren Drewes Daniels
Considering that this show has been sold out for well over a month, Friday night's performance by The xx hardly needs a recommendation. Thankfully, the major buzz surrounding this trio from London is well deserved. Although the band has only one album to its credit, The xx's self-titled debut is a fully realized statement of indie-rock purpose. Incorporating influences as diverse as Al Green, The Cure and Young Marble Giants, The xx makes alternative soul music for the anorexic/gothic dancehall crowd. Songs such as "VCR," "Islands" and "Basic Space" are perfectly executed indie-pop gems that speak equally to brain and body.

Although guitarist Baria Qureshi left the band last year citing "personal differences," the remaining trio of Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith hasn't missed a proverbial beat. As a matter of fact, it's almost impossible not to hear The xx's unique music these days. Besides playing nearly every major festival (including Austin City Limits), The xx's music has been used on television programs such as Cold Case, Law & Order, Gossip Girl, Grey's Anatomy and Lie to Me. Chosen by The Simpsons creator Matt Groening to headline night two of last year's All Tomorrow's Parties festival, The xx's profile is expanding exponentially.
