Donna Brazile is a Democrat's Democrat. She has worked in politics since the 1970s, and she became the first African-American woman to manage a presidential campaign when she led Al Gore's team for the election in 2000. Mountain View College in Oak Cliff is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and as part of the celebration, the school is hosting Brazile in a speaking engagement 10 a.m. Saturday. Brazile is the author of the best-selling memoir Cooking with Grease: Stirring the Pots in American Politics, an adjunct professor at Georgetown University, a columnist for Ms. Magazine, and an on-air contributor to CNN, NPR and ABC. Despite her high profile and her dedication to the party, Brazile does not always play it safe, and is known for speaking her mind. In 1988, she demanded that George H.W. Bush be forthcoming about rumors of an extramarital affair, which pissed off a lot of people, leading to her resignation from the Dukakis campaign. Still, she has consistently stayed a strong voice in Democratic politics. Whether you are a true blue Democrat or even just Dem-curious, this is a unique opportunity. Tickets are $100. Visit mountainviewcollege.edu for more information.
