Hayseed Horror

If we drew a Venn diagram, how much overlap would there be between Renaissance fair-goers and haunted house lovers? Surely, the folks who don velvet berets and corsets in the spring also enjoy applying fake wounds and black garb in the fall, right? At the very least, there's a common stomping ground for both types--the fairgrounds that in May are home to Scarborough Renaissance Festival are transformed every October into Screams Halloween theme park. At the intensely spooky Screams, guests can tour five haunted attractions for one price, including the Castle of Darkness, the 3-D Pirates of Peril Point, the Arcane Asylum, the Death Trap Maze and the Ghoulish Graveyard. Also on site are classic horror films (think Bela Lugosi, not Robert Englund), scary-oke, and Snake Encounters, a stand-up comedy show that features a 12-foot Burmese python. For an additional cost, visitors can enjoy the frightening Trail of Terror, games, souvenirs and activities. The one thing that's not terrifying about Screams is the price, just $24.99 per person. Screams is open at 2511 FM 66 in Waxahachie from 7:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays through October and 7:30 to 11 p.m. Halloween night. Visit screamspark.com for tickets and info.
Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.-1 a.m.; Sun., Oct. 31, 7:30-11 p.m. Starts: Oct. 8. Continues through Oct. 31, 2010
