Even though we all thought he was a happy, vivacious performer best enjoyed at a humid outdoor venue or inside minivans, Rick Springfield has had a dark life. And he wants to tell you about it, so read his new autobiography, Late, Late at Night. The book, which Springfield authored himself, details his meteoric rise to fame in music and acting, as well as his inevitable crash to back to earth and lifelong struggle with depression. Somehow, without our noticing, things got pretty rough for Springfield. And we believe it, because there's a picture of Springfield--brooding, dark and greasy--on the book's cover. It completely harshes our "Jessie's Girl" buzz. But the book's supposed to have an "uplifting" ending, fueled by passion for music, spiritual peace and love. There's the sticky-sweet Springfield we all know. So mission accomplished, Mr. Springfield--we'll take you slightly more seriously from here on out. Slightly-More-Serious Springfield will be at Barnes & Noble Lincoln Park, 7700 West Northwest Highway, at 7 p.m. Monday to sign copies of his book. Call 214-739-1124.
