They're Not Just Stories, You Know

As scary as some horror movies from my youth may have been, none of them came close to providing the fear that a good ghost story would. The power of imagination and the suggestion that the tale really did happen made any rubber-masked cinematic ghoul pale in comparison to the unseen terror. Which is why I think the scariest thing you could do this Halloween weekend isn't watch some watered-down grind house remake, but rather to listen to members of the Dallas Storytelling Guild spin ghost tales 7 p.m. Friday or Saturday at the Bath House Cultural Center, 521 E. Lawther Drive. Cost is $5. Visit dallasstorytelling.org.
