Generally we find ventriloquists to be the opposite of funny and actually, kind of creepy. OK, really creepy. However, puppets in general are a different story. From that endearing scene in The Sound of Music--where governess Maria stages the puppet show that presumably gets Captain von Trapp to notice her--all the way to the Muppets and Sesame Street, puppet shows are a much more entertaining alternative to conventional learning, or just a great way to just pass the time. To that end, Theatre Three is producing Tales From Mount Olympus, a comprehensive display of Greek mythology explained through, you guessed it, puppets. This intricate stage show is a hybrid event comprised of Bunraku puppetry, Black Light Theatre techniques and American storytelling meant to showcase the most beloved stories from Ancient Greece in a captivating experience sure to entertain (or at least distract) the whole family. The show runs through November 28 at Theatre Three's Theatre Too (don't get confused). Showtimes are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays (with additional 1 p.m. matinees on some Saturdays), and 2:30 p.m. Sundays. Call 214-871-3300 or visit theatre3dallas.com.
