We writer types have a prickly disposition. Sometimes we're, howyousay, anti-social or just downright ornery--especially when it comes to events that air on the side of "work-related" or "during our free time." But we've officially gotten our fancy pants ready--of our own volition--for this weekend. We're excited. We can't be stopped. We await our impending art attack.

Got plans for Saturday night? You're gonna want to go ahead and cancel those. Put on something stylish, and head down to Victory Park for a super chic happening of art, music, fashion, food, drink and everything else a good culture vulture desires, curated by the Public Trust's Brian Gibb. 8 to 11 p.m. is time for the Dallas Observer's inaugural Artopia and we're pretty certain you're going to want to be a part of it.
Pretend you just walked on into an episode of an indie art How It's Made and watch live T-shirt and poster printing. Root for your favorite in a T-shirt art fight between Decade and Fur Face Boy. Witness a wheat paste installation and window installation featuring live models by Brent Ozaeta. Bear witness to the debut of Series 3 of the MACRODONS collectable sculptures by Billy Zinser. Browse even more art by Steven Hopwood-Lewis, Mylan Nguyen, Taro Kun, Misty Keasler, Heyd Fotenot, Jeremy Smith, Mark Nelson, Sour Grapes and others while listening to sets by Prince William and DJ Sober, and a performance by George Quartz. And there's still fashion by L.Weatherread, Nicolas Designs and Darian Thomas.
See, not only is this huge--and we're not just talking huge in terms of all the events and genres covered, but physically huge as it takes place in the former LFT and Avalon Salon, 2350 Victory Park Lane--event going to showcase Dallas art, but it will actually honor a selection of those who create said art. A portion of the proceeds benefit MasterMinds artists: Three artists, art advocates or organizations who make an impact in the local art community will receive money. MasterMinds finalists also have the opportunity to display their work at the event in a special, separate exhibition...so, you know, you can tell the judges how much you agree or disagree with them. It's all the eye of the beholder, right? Wrong! It's in the mouth, too.
Sample cocktails, beer and wine (this event is 21 and up), and food by Kenichi, Naga Thai and Medina and as you take in the visual and aural entertainment. It sounds insane, what with the art fights, the music, the sushi and the 20-foot, inflatable...well, we don't want to ruin all the surprises.
