Sports Shorts

After screaming our throats raw as the Rangers won their way into their first World Series, and screaming now as FC Dallas kicks out the jams, as the Mavericks continue to pound the hardwood, and before Big D hosts the Super Bowl, there's little denying that we have sports on the brain. Thanks to all the commercial breaks, snack runs and instant replays, however, we also have stunted attention spans. So, while a play about sports might actually get an armchair coach/quarterback/vocally expressive owner/whatever, out of the recliner and into a place of dramatic culture, it would be shocking if the sports fans of Dallas could make it through without a few choice time outs...unless, it was The Complete World of Sports (Abridged) as presented by the Reduced Shakespeare Company. See, the RSC knows who they're up against--and they don't want any mid-season, er, mid-play firings--so they sprint through the history of all things athletic (including the original caveman classic "Neanderthal in the Middle," golf, synchronized swimming, cricket--seriously, everything), using sketch after lightning quick sketch of knee-slapper puns and sight gag-loaded farce, to get to present day sporting concerns like, well, competitive eating. Prepare to keep score at the Eisemann Center, 2351 Performance Drive in Richardson. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, with 2 p.m. Matinees Saturday and Sunday and a final evening performance at 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $34 to $40. Call 972-744-4650 or visit eisemanncenter.com.
Nov. 18-20, 8 p.m.; Nov. 20-21, 2 p.m.; Sun., Nov. 21, 7 p.m., 2010
