More About

A big thanks to all the schools out there--where else can a bunch of adolescents get together to plot random acts of deviance? To be fair, youngsters aren't always up to no good--in fact, sometimes their planning begets a life-changing occurrence. (And we're not talking about the popular girls' decision to suddenly declare scrunchies uncool.) In 1969, a group of Latino students staged a walkout in Crystal City, Texas, to demand equal rights at their high school. This act of courage set the stage for some major changes in the Latino community--and serves as a landmark moment in the battle for its civil rights. Come see the brave display of defiance for yourself in Crystal City 1969, presented by Cara Mía Theatre Co. The play runs at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Latino Cultural Center, 2600 Live Oak St., with an additional show 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Irving Arts Center, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd. For more information, including additional showtimes through December 18 at both locations, call 214-717-5297 or visit caramiatheatre.com.
Wed., Dec. 8, 8 p.m.; Thu., Dec. 9, 8 p.m.; Fri., Dec. 10, 8 p.m.; Sat., Dec. 11, 8 p.m., 2010
