No matter what Texas bumper stickers say, it's clear that bigger is not always better. Puppy dogs, hair barrettes, petit fours, buttons: People like some things downsized. That's the idea behind Small Works: Art + Object, an exhibition of small sculptures by 16 artists on display at the Marty Walker Gallery through December 23. The artists (including Frances Bagley, Margaret Meehan, Tom Orr, Wayne White, Billy Zinser and others) challenged themselves to edit their big ideas and whittle them into small, fascinating packages. And think about it. Wouldn't you have better luck if you referred to your girlfriend as a petite mask or a Venetian blind sample, instead of, say, a jumbo-sized canvas? Visit martywalkergallery.com.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Starts: Dec. 3. Continues through Dec. 23, 2010
