Cracking The Mold

Tired of seeing the same old sugar plum fairies and getting an eyefulla jangling Nutcracker moose knuckles? At 2 p.m. Saturday, see Barefoot Brigade (a group of area modern dancers working to make North Texas nationally-recognized for its "innovative dance works") perform The NOTcracker: A Barefoot Brigade Holiday Dance Festival of Modern Dance, Contemporary Dance and Performance Art at the Dallas Museum of Art (1717 N Harwood St). The performance will take place in the cafe atrium and is free with museum admission. Featured Barefoot Brigade members include: Beckles Dancing Company, Contemporary Dance/Fort Worth, Feel Good Dance, Muscle Memory Dance Theatre, and Phase 2 Dance Ensemble. The show also includes special guest performances from Dance Unending Performing Company (Frisco) and Hockaday Dance Workshop I (The Hockaday School). Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and military personnel with current ID (Military folk have to show their IDs? Geez, Dallas. Which one of you jerk clowns tried to get three dollars off admission by pretending to be military personnel? Shame on you. It's way cheaper to pretend to be a student), $5 for students and free for children under 12. Call 214-922-1200 or visit dallasmuseumofart.org.
Sat., Dec. 18, 2 p.m., 2010
