Jimmy Stewart, Jr.

The holiday season just isn't the holiday season without at least one viewing of It's a Wonderful Life. The film's got guardian angels, soda jerks, broken banisters, people falling into swimming pools--what's not to like? And, sure, you could rent a copy from Netflix and watch it on the ol' boob tube, or you could mix things up this year and check out a live version of the classic story, put on by Acting for Children Theater and directed by Annie Scontrino. Acting for Children Theater provides kids the opportunity to take acting classes as well as audition for and participate in live theater performances. Previous plays put on by AFC include such classics as Peter Pan and the The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Tickets for It's a Wonderful Life are $6 for matinee shows and $9 for evening performances, with discounts for kids and seniors. (Add an extra $1 per ticket if purchased at the door.) Shows are at 10 a.m. Thursday or 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Plaza Theatre in Garland, 521 W. State St. For tickets and info, call 972-658-3915 or visit actingforchildren.org.
Wed., Dec. 15, 10 a.m.; Thu., Dec. 16, 10 a.m.; Fri., Dec. 17, 7 p.m.; Sat., Dec. 18, 7 p.m., 2010
