Monster Jams

You can always count on a handful of things to never go out of style. These are the timeless items that, no matter the decade, can still put a smile on your face. Things like chocolate cake, oversized sunglasses, Paul McCartney, martinis or Young Frankenstein. If the latter seems a little out of place, it sounds like somebody needs to get caught up on their cult classics. Based on the characters Mary Shelley made famous, this musical comedy is a hilarious spoof on the monster genre. The king of off-kilter genius, Mel Brooks--who's responsible for classics such as The Producers, Spaceballs and Robin Hood: Men in Tights--brought this musical comedy to audiences in 1974. It's been bringing down the house year after year ever since. Full of sight gags, puns, physical comedy and general silliness, it's a great show to kick off the new year. If that's not enough to grab you, the scenery and special effects have been described by critics as absolutely dazzling. Come see Dr. Frankenstein, Igor and the whole crew for yourself Tuesday through January 23 at the Winspear Opera House. And you won't have to tell anyone it's your first time. Tickets are $30 to $98. For more information, call 214-880-0202 or visit attpac.org.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 4. Continues through Jan. 23, 2011
