Remember those grainy photographs of the Loch Ness monster gliding through the waters of the famous Scottish lake? Though many of those images were proven to be staged, they still fascinate viewers. Since gaining notoriety in the 1970s, staged photography has challenged the notion that photographs must capture history and reality. Explore the world of staged photography at the Stranger Than Fiction exhibit, featuring works from Carlo Zini and Jo Whaley, among others. The exhibition runs from Friday through February 1 in the Visual Arts Building at The University of Texas at Dallas, 800 W. Campbell Road in Richardson, and admission is free. A discussion with artists Stephan Hillerbrand and Mary Magsamen takes place on January 20, and one with Susan Kae Grant will be held on January 27. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, visit ah.utdallas.edu.
