Lady Scott Thomas' Leaving

While a bored bourgeois French housewife and a sexy Spanish contractor can't have much in common, the film Leaving proves that for the sake of a movie, sexual compatibility is enough. The film, produced in 2009, stars British actress Kristin Scott Thomas looking elegant and refined even as she pays the price for chucking her stable 20-year marriage to continue an affair with handsome Ivan. Yes, it's basically Lady Chatterley's Lover but there's a reason D.H. Lawrence keeps getting read and movies like this keep getting made--it's fun to see upper-classish-type people fall prey to their passions just like everybody else. Thomas' character runs off with her man, but the story doesn't end there as the two struggle and have lots of passionate moments that, the camera tells us, are probably worth it. This is one of those oh-so-French movies worth the price of a ticket for the sheer highbrow, highfalutin' joy of it all. On top of the steamy French dramatics, the film is set in the South of France so there's that kind of scenery too. There are screenings at 6 and 8 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday, noon, 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St. Call 817-738-9215 or visit themodern.org.
