The Dallas Children's Theater is staging its first show of the New Year for children and families, and, surprisingly, it's in a courtroom. The hilarious musical-theater adaptation of John Scieszka and Lane Smith's book: The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs will run until February 27 at the Rosewood Center for Family Arts, 5938 Skillman St., and while there may not be order in the court, everyone is welcome. The show is directed by Dallas' award-winning Cheryl Denson, and stars Bob Hess as Alexander T. Wolf, the main character from Scieszka and Smith's book. You remember Scieszka and Smith--they collaborated on a number of books together including The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Fairytales. Both books should be in every 7-year-old's library, but now Alexander T. Wolf can be seen singing, dancing and acting as his own counsel in defense against the accusations of the three little pigs. The book came out in 1989, so if you parents coming along have already read it, you get to reflect on how old you've gotten. If theater's not your cup of tea, come anyway for the kids, and daydream of various ways Law & Order DAs could approach the case today if it were "inspired by actual events." Ticket prices vary according to age and the day of the week. For tickets and showtimes, visit dct.org.
