Zilm on Film

Pressed for time? Well, save an extra minute or two to take in Jeff Zilm's new art installation of full films pressed onto canvas. He's "extracted the sound and image data from the celluloid base of a reel film" and projected it onto canvas. While you may not be able to discern the plots of the original films from Rainer Werner Fassbinder and D.W. Griffith, the paintings are layered in motif. The exhibit will accompany new works in Zilm's Password series as well, where Zilm has taken passwords, such as the one for his current Gmail account, and turned them into works of "extreme horizontality." And if that's not enough, he's also displaying iron-on art depicting Neolithic arrowheads. The hunt continues through February 12 at the Marty Walker Gallery, 2135 Farrington St. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Call 214-740-0066 or visit martywalkergallery.com.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 6-8 p.m. Starts: Jan. 8. Continues through Feb. 12, 2011
