Dallas Children's Theater hosts its TEEN SCENE Festival through February 20. Unlike the after-school specials of yesteryear, TEEN SCENE is unrestrained in order to create meaningful works that raise awareness to the issues that teens currently face. The 2011 festival will include a quartet of plays written by playwright in residence, Linda Daugherty, in addition to two symposiums entitled Road to Resilience. Two highly anticipated professional productions, don't u luv me? and hard 2 spel dad anchor the festival by exploring the dangers of aggression in teen-relationships, and the struggle to fit in while managing dyslexia, respectively. A staged reading of The Secret Life of Girls incorporates the talents of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, while DCT's Academy/Teen Conservatory presents a student production of EAT (It's Not About Food). The Road to Resilience symposiums bring balance to the festival by drawing educators, artists, parents and teens together to discuss the issues expressed in each play. The symposium is comprised of two parts, the Clinical Path (Friday and Saturday) and the Creative Path (February 18 and 19) and will allow participants an opportunity to see all four productions. Full festival passes can be purchased for $75, while tickets for individual productions range from $14 to $23. Tickets may be purchased online by visiting dct.org, or by calling the DCT Box Office at 214-740-0051.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Feb. 4. Continues through Feb. 20, 2011
