Her front-and-center attitude could be trying; she constantly overshadowed fellow Supremes Flo Ballard and Mary Wilson and demanded top billing in the trio's final years. Still, you couldn't argue with the results (12 No. 1 singles) or with her voice.
Her role as one of soul's finest singers has rarely been questioned. And her solo career yielded more hits, duets with Marvin Gaye and Lionel Richie, and, sure enough, even a few movie roles. Ross comes to town with her tour, which promises an overview of her 50-year career, as well as extravagant costume changes and stage sets.
Diana Ross concert at the Majestic Theatre on Wednesday night was fantastic. Just solid performance from start to end, no intermission. All her songs from Motown to singles and her movie hits. Back up singers and band were great too! Throughly enjoyed every minute of it. It was worth the price of the tickets.
Diana Ross did not demand top billing in the Supremes. Why do you report a lie like it is the truth?
Well, she certainly didn't refuse top billing or any of the changes that put her in that position, either.
There was no reason to refuse it - she WAS the Supremes. She's the reason they got the audition, the reason they got signed, the reason those records sold, the reason The Copa took a chance on them, the reason for their iconic look, the only supremes voice on all the #1's............ and is still packing them in 41 years after she left the group.
Why would she? Being ambitious isn't a crime. Her voice stood out. The other Supremes just didn't....as likable as they were.
