Trashcan Sinatras, Salim Nourallah

Friday, March 4, at The Loft

Prolific Scottish pop band Trashcan Sinatras' first big single in the States, 1991's "Obscurity Knocks," was prophetically also their last. During the 20 years that followed, the group released four studio albums, a few novelty records and more than a handful of EPs. But none made the stateside splash of 1990's Cake.

More About

Their breakout album did, however, earn the group a devout, cult following of fans obsessed with the Sinatras' whimsical, melodic pop songs. Those fans stuck around as the band played a big role in several eras of UK pop, influencing popular bands from The Smiths all the way to Travis. In fact, their influence has been so strong that they have just released In The Music, a greatest-hits record of sorts that highlights the band's back catalog.

Among the band's biggest fans is Dallas-area producer and songsmith Salim Nourallah, who likely won't be purchasing In The Music. He already owns the entire back catalog. And, fittingly, he'll also act as the band's opener for their Dallas date as they embark on an acoustic tour of the US.
