Harry Shearer is probably best known as the voice of Mr. Burns on The Simpsons or for classic mockumentaries like This Is Spinal Tap and A Mighty Wind, but his recent documentary is nothing to laugh about. Directed and narrated by Shearer, The Big Uneasy explores the after effects of Hurricane Katrina and the rebuilding of New Orleans. The historic Texas Theatre hosts the Dallas premier of this in-depth investigation into what went wrong and how the mistakes of yesterday are being repeated once again. Shearer uncovers a whistleblower who reveals that the Army Corps of Engineers have continued using some of the same flawed techniques that lead to the failure of the levee system. And not just in New Orleans, but in cities throughout the United States. The film includes swank computer modeling and never-before-seen video from when New Orleans flooded to illustrate how defective systems, both new and old, will continue to endanger the public without greater accountability and oversight. Shearer meets with experts, scientific investigators, Treme star John Goodman and New Orleans natives to discuss the tragedy, the recovery and the future of the Crescent City. Screenings begin Friday at the Texas Theatre, 231 West Jefferson Blvd.. Tickets start at $7. Call 214-948-1546 or visit thetexastheatre.com for showtimes.
