Texas Showdown

As far as sports rivalries go, the Lone Star State is a major player in all things related to good old-fashioned competitive hate. And while a good portion of our rivalries are with teams located out of state (the Sooners, the Eagles, etc.) there are a few within the state that have mounted in intensity year after year, and perhaps the most notable is the hatefest between the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Mavericks. Most local Dallasites would agree that whiny baby Tim Duncan and home-wrecking Tony Parker are some of the most overrated players in the NBA, while Dallas' own Dirk Nowitzki is one of the best kept secrets in the league. Keep in mind, also, that up there in redundancy with the University of Oklahoma fight song is "Go Spurs, Go," which becomes annoying within the first minute of playing time. Don't believe me? Watch while the number one and two ranked teams in the Western Conference compete for bragging rights when Dirk and Co. host the Spurs at the American Airlines Center this Friday at 7:30 pm. Regardless of who wins, the game should make for one interesting and emotionally charged event. Visit ticketmaster.com.
