Battle Botany

Flip on any documentary channel--or, heck, step outside your front door--to see that the relationship of humanity to the rest of the natural world is one marked by greed (on the human side) and indifference (on nature's side). Our society is shaped by how we attempt to bend wilderness to an efficient system. But nature--plants, for instance--often gets something out of the bargain, as we agree to nurture their seedlings in optimum conditions and spread their seeds far and wide. The exhibit Botany of Desire uses art to explore the co-evolutionary tension of our experience with the plant world. The show opens Friday at the UT Dallas Visual Arts Building, 800 W. Campbell Road in Richardson, with a reception from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and runs through April 23. Admission is free. For more information, call 972-UTD-ARTS or visit ah.utdallas.edu.
Mondays-Fridays. Starts: March 25. Continues through April 23, 2011
