Live It Up In the Fort

Now that the weather is finally permitting, we can once again head out of the gallery and to the streets to get our art and culture fix. And nothing says fine art like watching Chinese acrobats while stuffing yourself with funnel cake. Like the year before, hundreds of juried artists come from as far as Chicago and the West Coast to display their fine art and fine crafts alike at Fort Worth's Main Street Arts Festival, Texas' largest arts fest. From the typical carnival tchotchke to truly impressive pieces of art, the fair has sold more than $4 million worth of art in previous years. The festival also has live entertainment for all tastes, including Grammy-winning atomic polka band Brave Combo and Grammy-nomiated jazz saxophonist Ravi Coltrane. But keep in mind, "live entertainment" doesn't refer to music alone. Jugglers, acrobats and street performers gather to present the weird and the wonderful. In addition to Main Street's fine dining scene, fairgoers can partake in the customary turkey leg, bratwurst or margarita. This four day event runs Thursday through Sunday along Main Street in Fort Worth. Admission is free. For more information and details, call 817-546-8330 or visit mainstreetartsfest.org.
