Isn't She?

Pretty in Pink is one of a handful of movies I will watch anytime. I mean, I would watch it every day if it presented itself every day. There is something so very comforting about it, and I can't put my finger on it. Is it just because it was hatched at the same time that I was becoming aware of the world around me? Or is it something deeper? Yeah, that's right, I said deeper. Oh, this might be a high school romance and an icon of the '80s, but it is not a simple-minded tale. For anyone who hasn't seen it, Pretty in Pink is legendary director John Hughes' unique take on Romeo and Juliet. It is the story of Andie (Molly Ringwald), a very nice, creative, individualist girl of humble beginnings who falls for Blane (Andrew McCarthy), a rich kid, conformist and kind of a cad, and how they figure it all out. And the soundtrack? It, quite simply, kicks ass. See it on the big screen at midnight Friday or Saturday (or both) Landmark Inwood Theatre, 5458 W. Lovers Lane at Inwood.
