It’s time for a French lesson! If you ask Google Translate what the French word “potiche” means in English, it will give you simply the word “vase.” This definition might satisfy your needs in some cases, but if you were hoping to find out about the film Potiche (2010) based on the play by Pierre Barillet and Jean-Pierre Grédy, you will be up a creek without a paddle. In this case, you would need the less formal translation that basically equates to the English phrase “trophy wife.” Get it? A vase is sort of like a trophy! Language is fun! But, seriously, if you haven’t seen it yet, you should check out the light-hearted French comedy Potiche this weekend at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St., as part of the Magnolia at the Modern series. It stars, as Isaiah Sheffer would say, “the incomparable” Catherine Denevue, as well as My Father the Hero star Gérard Depardieu. (I don’t know if Gérard would appreciate being referred to in this manner, but that’s how I know him.) Show times are 6 and 8 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8.50, or $6.50 for Modern members. For more information, call 817-738-9215 or visit themodern.org.
