For awkward teens, the thought of playing volleyball triggers horrifying flashbacks of a ball sailing toward one's face during middle school gym class. For armchair athletes, it evokes pristine beach courts populated by fluid, golden-bodied Olympians like Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh. They make the whole kill and dig thing look so easy. The USA Volleyball Adult Open Championships falls somewhere in between. Tournament play is offered on several levels: men, women, co-ed, height restricted, Special Olympics, sitting, masters and seniors teams. Gramps and Gran, don't break a hip trying to pummel the ball. Watch these teams bump, set and spike their way through the tournament starting Saturday at the Dallas Convention Center, 650 S.
