Grind Out a Sweet Weekend

I don't know how to skateboard at all, but I'm really good at saying things like "sick," "killer" and "wicked air, brah." See? It's amazing how realistic that was, right? Guess what? Even I am invited to the Texas Skateboarding Event of the Skate-century. (Don't call it that or you'll get punched in the faux hawk.) It's a two-parter so pull out your Steno pad, you're going to want to take notes. The first part is the old-school art show, ReVert, featuring artwork by Curtis Black. It's on Friday from 8 to 11 p.m. at The Shop in Oak Cliff, 332 W. Davis St. While you peep the art, fill up them guts with gourmet hot dogs from Rocker Dogz and check out music by DJ Clint Phillips of Lonestar Trio, The American Fuse and The Gore Hounds. The whole thing is sponsored by Lone Star beer so there will be plenty of sick hops, too. The next day (Saturday) wake up early (before noon) and head to The Overground Project located at 2117 S. Ervay St. for Boneless One from noon to 6 p.m. It's a skate show featuring shredding by some of the biggest names in the international skating community including Christain Hosoi, Rune Glifberg and Pat Duffy, among others. It's for a good cause, too- remembering the life and skating times of Texas legend Jeff Phillips while benefiting the Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Visit overgroundproject.com.
Fri., May 27, 8-11 p.m.; Sat., May 28, noon, 2011
