For a body of work that may cause some viewers to doubt the reality of every photographic image they ever see again, Every Doubt That Holds You Here is an ambitious title for an impressive installation by contemporary artist Ted Kincaid. His photographically based, digital creations are clearly inspired by nature, each work replicating the look of sepia-toned prints of transcendent vistas, icy seascapes and ominous mountain ranges. Most of the Dallas-based artist's recent works look like historical snapshots taken by a photographer in some barren, tangential Jules Verne-inspired sci-fi universe—especially his series A Hundred Moons, which consists of a hundred imaginary photographs of the moon. Kincaid's moons, created from images of the artist's concrete studio floor, evoke the same ghostly vibe as early black and white science fiction films like Georges Méliès' silent masterpiece "A Trip to the Moon (Le Voyage dans la Lune)." Kincaid teaches art for the Plano Independent School District, and his innovative advanced placement art courses were recently the basis of a feature that aired on NBC 5 DFW. Every Doubt That Holds You Here runs through June 11 at Marty Walker Gallery, 2135 Farrington St., which is open from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. Call 214-749-0067 or visit martywalkergallery.com.
Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: May 4. Continues through June 11, 2011
