Big Notes on the Big Screen

Love to head out on the town to partake in the operatic arts, but hate jumping into that ill-fitting formal wear? And what about waiting till halfway through The Ring of the Nibelung for bread pudding? Unacceptable. But there is an alternative. Thanks to NCM Fathom and The Metropolitan Opera's The Met: Live in HD 2011 Summer Encores, you can get your dose of high culture in the same environment normally reserved for Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail or Iron Man. And in high definition, no less. Eschew the "nice" clothes for jeans and dig into a bucket of popcorn while you watch Verdi's Don Carlo, Puccini's Tosca and more. A different opera from the previous season is highlighted every Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. through July 27. These encore performances of The Met: Live in HD are being shown in more than a dozen Dallas area theaters, including Grapevine, Denton and Frisco. Ticket prices vary by theater, so visit fathomevents.com for more information.
Wed., June 29, 6:30 p.m., 2011
