If '80s movies taught us anything, it's that out-of-town cops like visiting sunny California to wreak a bit of havoc and save the world. Some of them did it by partnering up with the local good guys and others did it with the aid of an awful laugh (yes, I'm looking at you Axel Foley), but only one guy did it with cowboy style, fun explosions and awesome one liners, and that was the great John McClane. Bruce Willis earned his spot in the action hero hall of fame with 1988's Die Hard, when McClane showed us how easy it could be to take on Hans Gruber, one of the best movie villains of all time, with nothing but a Twinkie-buying buddy on the walkie and the ability to shoot really well. Though there may have been a few minor hiccups along the way (trading in Reginald VelJohnson for Justin Long may not have been the brightest spot in shoot 'em up history), the powers that be have made McClane and the Die Hard franchise beloved by action lovers everywhere, and disliking the Die Hard franchise is truly un-American, so go out and show your patriotism this weekend and see the film that started it all as Die Hard hits the big screen at the Inwood Theatre, 5458 W. Lovers Lane, for Midnight Madness Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $10. Call 214-764-9106 or visit landmarktheatres.com.
