It takes an elite brand of nerd to walk away from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and say, "Nine hours was not nearly enough." Fathom Events is answering that plaintive, geeky wail with a three-night theatrical event that brings even more fur-footed folks and elf-on-orc action to the silver screen than ever before. Each film begins with new special introductions by director Peter Jackson from the New Zealand set of the upcoming Lord of the Rings prequel, The Hobbit. The films include roughly an hour of additional footage apiece, making this movie-watching experience as epic as the trilogy itself. Provided, of course, that the cut content includes more than extreme close-ups of Elijah Wood looking anxious. All of this is a sneak peek in advance of the June 28th release of the 15-disc box set, The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy: Extended Edition on Blu-Ray. Nineteen Metroplex area theaters close out a national three-week event, including theaters in Arlington, Plano and NorthPark Center. The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers have screened, leaving The Return of the King for big-screen viewing on June 28. The screening begins at 7 p.m. Ticket prices vary by theater, so visit fathomevents.com for more information.
