More often than not, I find any and all things related to geometry wholly unappealing. The mere mention of the term brings back awful memories of poor test scores, unproductive study sessions and disapproving glares from Mrs. Eckles as I'm handed back my pop quiz, freshly showered with markings from a red pen. However, opening Friday, a non-lame geometry-based event (yes, there is such a thing) hits Dallas, as an exhibition focusing on geometric abstraction lands at the Museum of Geometric and MADI Art. The museum features winning artists from a juried competition that took place at the museum earlier in the month. The featured work is comprised of several different media that share a common focus on geometric-based design and little else. Derivatives: Origins in Geometry is on display at the Museum of Geometric and MADI Art, 3109 Carlisle St., through September 25.
