Sia, Oh Land, Ximena Sarinana

Sunday, August 7, at the Granada Theater

Sia Furler, known simply as Sia, is a force of nature that seems to have somehow magically popped up in several of the more interesting cultural phenomena of the past decade.

It was Sia you heard singing on Zero 7's landmark album, Simple Things, which pretty much defined the down-tempo music scene. It was Sia's song "Breathe Me" that was played as the final credits rolled on HBO's hit series Six Feet Under. And it was Sia who showed up to help coach Christina Aguilera's team on this season's surprising TV hit The Voice after having contributed to Aguilera's Bionic.

Good luck has something to do with this, surely. It may have been that same good fortune that had her remain in Thailand while her boyfriend traveled to London ahead of her, only to be killed in a car crash. But matching her serious luck is a deep well of songwriting talent and a soulful voice.

Asked by Rolling Stone a couple years ago to describe herself, Sia's response was "sexy clown." No surprise, then, that there's a lot of joy and a bit of whimsy in her live performance. What else you would expect from such a force of nature?

"It may have been that same good fortune that had her remain in Thailand while her boyfriend traveled to London ahead of her, only to be killed in a car crash." WOW... this comment is in VERY POOR TASTE. Sia didn't make it to her boyfriend's birthday, therefore, he decided to go out to treat himself to some drinks, and he stepped in front of a cab and lost his life. HOW IS THAT GOOD FORTUNE? Are you assuming that if Sia had been there with him that night that she would have died as well or in his stead? You cannot POSSIBLY know that for a fact. You are a hack journalist and should be ashamed of yourself. Throw your crystal ball out the window and do some quality research before next writing an article. Thank you. -Sia fan
