You would not know Capitalism if it jumped up and bit you on your substantial butt. All you are whining about is 'revenue allotment' or "where's my share?" What do you think The Longhorn Network is, another entitlement for you do-nothing, left-wing liberals? My God, but you people are stupid!
-
11/11/2011 2:22:00 PM
Thank God! Go, A&M, GO! We will not have to listen to any more of your constant whining about how "mean ol' University of Texas" gets all the recruits and Aggies get the dregs.
We will not have to listen to how great the alleged rivalry between UT and A&M is when, in truth, at the University of Texas we barely notice A&M... and it has been that way for almost 50 years. The rivalry is in the minds of the Aggies, we worry about OU and/or MAJOR BOWL GAMES for high stakes. That does not include A&M.
If you think the SEC will help your recruiting, ask Arkansas how many years it took to begin fielding a good football team. Those SEC recruits whom you hope to snare would have gone to the Big 12 anyway. The same with Texas high school recruits.
You go, A&M, and good riddance! You will be easily replaced and not missed.

TheTruth 11/11/2011 7:57:00 AM
Because it's a REALLY funny joke.

TheTruth 11/11/2011 7:56:00 AM
You right-wingnuts worship at the altar of capitalism, yet you think it shouldn't apply to revenue allotment for college sports?
-
Hal_lambert 10/25/2011 2:31:00 AM
Obviously, those narrow hillbillies in austin think that it is soley about football. The move goes far beyond football.
-
madmatt 10/22/2011 6:07:00 AM
At least Austin doesn't have all that racist that call themselves christian's. Wait..aggies will fit perfectly in the sec which is home to all the racist states.
My kid had plans to attend tam but after tam deciding to bolt to the sec. she changed her mind and no she not attending UT.
-
10/19/2011 10:26:00 PM
At least the Aggies will be rid of that bunch of tatooed, AIDS infested dumbasses from austin once and for all.
-
10/18/2011 1:16:00 AM
Well gee Asshole, what was the tip-off. Hate is abounding here and it is coming just as much from UT supporters and guys like you that think they have to be as obnoxious as possible and have the last word. Psychopaths, really? Your generalizations and prejudices against Aggies show your true ignorance. This whole hate debate is ridiculous and you are one of those that has ratcheted the hatred and passion to a whole ridiculous level.

What was that Saturday, 1 October, Arkansas - A&M score again?
A&M, you bunch of pathetic little wimps, "Running away like scorned little girls." Well said, Richie Whitt!
So much for A&M's honor, tradition, and all the heroism of Aggie men who went on to serve in the past. They are all real proud of today's whining, self-serving effeminate little eunuchs attending A&M today. Yep, just real proud...

Bcgregg2 09/16/2011 5:41:00 AM
oh Ritchie. Admittedly I have the benefit of hindsight but on Aug 18 you did have your head up your ass. the fact is that A&M had more foresight than Texas or Oklahoma or anybody else left in the Big 12 now on the endangered species list. Texas was too smart for it's own good. When Oklahoma & OSU bolt next week, Texas will be left in a conference with Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas blah blah blah. Ooooooooh. Awesome!!! You are right. A&M will be faced with tough competition in the elite SEC. Who will Texas compete with? schools who could never get an invite to an elite conference. But Texas will have their LHN which they could never keep if they joined an elite conference.
-
The Random Asshole 09/15/2011 5:58:00 PM
Let me guess Buckaroo, you're an Aggie. You and the rest of the nuts on this board are the perfect illustration of why everyone hates you guys and that beloved school of yours. Nobody can say a word about it without you people going ape shit. I've never met a collective group from another alma mater who were as "passionate" about their school as you morons.
I saw one of the posters on this article say something to the effect that the writer of this article wouldn't have the guts to say what he wrote in a room full of Aggies; the implication being that his life would be in danger. The sad thing is...I believe him. And therein lies the problem. You people are psychopaths about that god forsaken school. We have people flying airplanes into buildings, drought, tsunami, earthquakes, famine, wars being fought under false pretenses, but let a guy same something about the Aggies and the world is coming to an end and you idiots are ready to burn someone at a shoddily built bonfire that's on the verge of collapsing.
I can say one thing about you people though, you are definitely easy to spot. Usually driving a red (I know, it's "maroon") vehicle and you're the most obnoxious/annoying people at a sports bar especially when your team is winning...thank goodness that doesn't happen very often.
-
Thelawwon 09/15/2011 5:01:00 AM
This article is so full of lies. Yes, Texas hasn't complained about the 7-on-7 championships at A&M for the last few years because it has hosted state championships in virtually every sport sanctioned by the UIL for decades. It is now clear that the Big 12 needs A&M more than A&M needs the Big 12. UT's arrogance, rudeness, and greed has caused Nebraska, Colorado, and now A&M to leave. OU, OSU, and Mizzou will be next.
UT is scrambling to pick up the pieces. Virtually no league wants it because it refuses to share its TV money. That's its prerogative. But UT shouldn't be surprised that others decide to pick up their toys and leave the sandbox. UT's only options seem to be a Big 12 that is just a shadow of what it was and joining the ACC. Methinks the Aggies are having the last laugh.
-
09/15/2011 1:33:00 AM
First, it was Whitt's exploding head via his biased article that set these comments in motion. Second, from your rhetoric you sound like a wholly unlikeable dude so you were probably singled out for special treatment in the activities you mention. Third, guess we know more about what your manhood looks like than we'd like (cheese grater, eh?). Lastly, I don't think there's anything "Random" about you.... I think you work hard to get to that second half of your nick.

Well they made you write an article about them free of charge... keep up the aggie jokes. Hey did you hear there are two kinds of folks.. Texas Aggies and those that wanna be Texas Aggies... I guess you fall into the wanna be category! Thank god there are other news outlet choices.
-
The Random Asshole 09/12/2011 4:23:00 AM
I have to laugh at all these Aggies' heads exploding over this article. I'm not a Longhorn but I've always hated A&M mostly from what I've heard about the school, but when I actually attended one of the games, that's what really did it for me. It is without a doubt, the biggest god damned cult on the planet. They pump out brain-washed right-wing nut cases like a finely tuned Ford assembly line. Additionally, I've had the "pleasure" of both working and playing intramural sports with Aggie alumni and I can tell you from first hand experience that being around these people is the equivalent of masturbating with a cheese grater, and that's being nice. Whether they stay in the Big 12 or not, I really don't give a shit, but if they do go to the SEC it will be nice seeing them get their asses handed to them, week after week. Have a nice day.

A&M has never recovered from being No 2 in Texas. It started in 1883.

R. Whitt has sold out to TU just like the tv networks. It takes no whitt to be such an idiot.
-

Aggies aren't blaming anyone. That's the t-sips. Speaking of chasing losses, how will you follow that 5-7 season last year?
-
R.C. was right 09/08/2011 6:29:00 PM
Don't expect anyone wearing Texas A&M blinders to be able to see how this is a terrible move. That is what makes them Aggies.
Instead of solving problems, shout louder, blame others, and chase your losses with more bad decisions.
The Mission Accomplished banner will soon be flying in Aggieland.
-
Buck77362 09/08/2011 4:33:00 PM
Dear Author, your bias in this article makes ur writing a joke to be honest.....sucks to suck!
-
Stillamastatit 09/08/2011 4:04:00 AM
How is this a loss for Texas A&M? They leave a dead conference that lost the North Division's only competitive team when Nebraska left and the conference's only recruiting pipeline is to the state A&M is located in. The Longhorn Network angered every other team in the Big 12-2 and resulted in the NCAA ruling against UT's plans.
Texas A&M will receive a recruiting pipeline to every other major football state except California. A&M renews old rivalries with both Arkansas and LSU. A&M gains a conference that is extremely relevant where each team is loaded with top talent while losing a crumbling conference that is constructed in such a way that UT and OU's only match up where they play an equal caliber team is when they play each other. The Big 12-2 won't bring anyone of substance into the conference that can makeup for how watered down the competition level has become.
"I don't have a dog in this hunt". The extreme bias reflected in your article says otherwise Ace.

You are a raging cesspool of stupidity, author.
-
Cfred 09/08/2011 2:39:00 AM
I can't wait to read this article a year from now when A&M is not in the Big 12. It will be even more ridiculous than it is now.
-
Texag22 09/07/2011 11:00:00 PM
Yeah, the big 12 will survive. Obviously this writer will always be writing for the Observer and doesnt have much future.
UT wont be accepted in the PAC 12 with the LHN and if they have the right to have it, why does A&M not have the right to go where they please? Obviously the writer of this article is upset about the whole thing for whatever reason.
-
09/07/2011 10:41:00 PM
Yeah, we can tell by all the articles, chatter, and griping. Nope, doesn't bother them at all... hahahahahahahahahahaha
-

Why? Because they're jealous and can't admit it.
Looks like varsity's horns are sawed off...
-
09/07/2011 10:38:00 PM
As usual, the Observer gets it wrong. The big loser here is "The University" of Texas, not A&M. A&M is gone to the SEC, and Texas is left with a network no cable/satellite provider wants to carry. Way to go, T-sips. You shot yourselves in the foot.
-
Bigag83 09/07/2011 10:31:00 PM
Only the Dallas observer would print something with as much mush mouth nonsense as this! This is obviously a slanted, one-sided, t-sip written article...by the way, if it doesn't matter to you that we're leaving, then why write about it at all!
-
09/07/2011 2:59:00 PM
UT has been self-serving since it's inception, using it's geo-political advantage of being in the state's Capital at every turn since 1883 (six years After A&M's establishment). After Arkansas left the SW Conference and with the amount of money college programs initiate, self-interest was bound to become paramount. So, talk about hypocritical, Whitt, you and your kind are blind to your own.
-
Seneca 09/07/2011 1:09:00 PM
Sour grapes article because the Ags are moving to a way better neighborhood?
-
dm_frank 09/07/2011 10:35:00 AM
I think the ultimate blame in all this mess goes to USC and their egregious blunders in the 2006 Rose. Texas' victory in that game inflated the collective Texas ego to disproportionate levels. Overnight, aided by widespread anti-USC sentiment, Texas was suddenly the greatest program in CFB history, Vince Young was parting the Red Sea, and Texas wad too good for everyone in the Big 12. All perspective was lost (nevermind, for instance, that in the not-so-distant past, Kansas State was routinely winning 11 games while Texas was winning 4 or 8), and in a way the 2009 Big 12 CG was like the final straw.

dfwadam 09/06/2011 1:49:00 AM
Hey Richie, hilarious and douchebaggy name btw, something about your poorly written tabloid article just doesn't add up for me. You obviously feel that the Longhorns are a world ahead of the Aggies in every possible way, so why do you care if they leave the Big 12? I mean if Iowa State shot the middle finger to the Big 12 and left for the Big East would you be this upset? I read your whole article and failed to see a single sentence about something A&M has done wrong.
It's so obvious that you're a Longhorn guy and you're either jealous, afraid or both. Jealous that A&M will be in a better conference than your team. Afraid that without A&M the Big 12 will fall apart and you'll end up in the PAC-10 or pulling a Notre Dame. Either way it's not a good look on you, but still one I like to see. To you and all the other angry, jealous and bitter UT fans - thank you so much for being vocal about your feelings. Your classless behavior has pushed this fairly simply issue into a media frenzy and is shinning just a little light on how Longhorns really behave.

Markiem00 09/04/2011 5:31:00 AM
Larry said down below said it best. I currently attend a&m, not one if us think that we will come to the SEC and have a winning season. This is a long term decision, our recruiting will go up, our income will go up, our national recognition will go up and in a few years I feel confident that a&m can be a powerhouse.
-
Kblomcrist 09/03/2011 11:35:00 PM
I could really care less where A&M goes - just so long as they quit bitching already and leave - I mean really? How many times do I have to hear your leaving? If your going to go then just go already. I cant really see the appeal for A&M here - they will need to change the sign out front though:
Welcome to Texas A&M - Doormat to the SEC
-
09/02/2011 7:14:00 PM
Jokes aside, Texas doesn't care if little cousin Tamu leaves. Does not bother them at all.
-
09/01/2011 1:59:00 PM
Having been an Auburn fan, first and foremost, for my entire life, and secondly an SEC fan, (being born and raised in Alabama); now that I live and will likely die in Texas, I have adopted A&M as my Texas team to root for and support. I love going to College Station to see their games and all of the tradition around A&M.
Like Arkansas and South Carolina, if A&M gets into the SEC, it will have a tough time competing, at first, until the SEC's reputation helps them get a team recruited and built and maybe even getting an SEC caliber coach.
Until it all comes together, and they are competing at SEC quality level, they will get kicked around a bit in the conference. A good first game at home, season opener, or homecomming opponent, will be theit role in their first and building years.
IF THEY JOIN THE SEC, which is clearly the toughest conference in the U.S., (anyone with doubts about that just has to look at the last 30 or so years of bowl game competetors and winners) they will get up to SEC standards and compete well.
-
Rustysmith 09/01/2011 6:40:00 AM
A&M, welcome to the SEC.
Longhorns, you can have the leftovers of the Big XII. As much as you've tried to place blame on A&M for the conference's fall ever since last year, the current situation is entirely your doing. And everyone except people living in the state of Texas seems to realize it.
1.) Texas begins initial conversations about an exclusive network outside their Big XII deal, spurring Mizzou to reach out to the Big Ten.
2.) The Big Ten engages both Mizzou and Nebraska in expansion talks.
3.) Texas, seeing the dominoes of the Big XII's demise beginning to fall, look west at the sizable TV deal the PAC-10 has and proposes a merger. Texas and USC would be the largest beneficiaries of the merger, which would also bring over the entire Big XII South to form a "PAC-16."
4.) Colorado sees the dominoes falling, preempts Texas' mass exodus. The Big Ten extends an invitiation to Nebraska, who takes the offer. These circumstances, particularly Colorado, throw a monkey wrench in UT's plans.
5.) Meanwhile, Texas A&M and Oklahoma realize that following Texas around might not be in their best interest. Texas A&M is confirmed to have had discussions with the SEC at this time. Oklahoma is reported to have been in discussions, though it's never confirmed.
6.) The schools who truly got screwed--the Kansas', Iowa States, etc.--pull the Big XII back to the drawing board and find two nice TV deals to complement each other. Furthermore, in an effort to appease Texas and keep their BCS affiliation alive, they allow the Longhorn Network to continue on outside conference TV contracts.
7.) The Longhorns announce in a press conference that they always wanted to keep the conference together and that A&M is the one that's tearing it apart, or something to that effect. Texas threatens to take the rivalry game away, but A&M stands firm until they get more solid footing at the negotiation table. The Big XII is saved.
8.) A year later, A&M realizes how unstable the Big XII and it's current nicely-incentivized TV contracts are, goes back to the SEC. And guess what? A&M stands to make just as much money (with more stability and a fatter TV contract in the works) from the SEC as they did in the fragile Big XII.
So why isn't anyone mad at Nebraska for breaking up the conference? Seems to me A&M was just an easier, more natural target.
So come on over, Ags. We have a warm seat and we pay Vanderbilt just as much as we do Florida, and maybe now you'll have a chance to get some games televised in the Houston market an hour or so down the road.
War Eagle!

Bleh. 09/01/2011 2:09:00 AM
The classless Aggie jokes are better suited for those coming from your Alma Mater - every single Aggie that has responded to your disparaging and disgusting article has blown your impotent writing out of the water. And mind you, they've had much better manners as a whole as well.
-
Sittin_here 09/01/2011 12:14:00 AM
I don't think A&M gets it. Going from 4-5 in the conference to a desperate after 3 am date (that means behind mississippi state) in the SEC is more embarrassing than just get a real coach not some TCU reject or an over ratted high school coach and get out there and recruit.
There not moving the school just the schedule so they'll still have to compete with the same recruiters and schools. Make a better deal or whatever with the big 12 the number 2 conference since big 12 destroys big 10 and pac 10 schools on the big stage.
Too many dollar to sale yourself short.

Classy bit of writing. About as classy as grabbing up an armload of free chicken boxes from the Tarleton State football press box on your way out after the game.
Being the sports guy at The Observer? That's got to make a fella bitter. So he spews out his bitter on the departing TAMU. Stay classy, Chicken Box Man.

Seriously?! Ol Richie better hide.....he has another thing coming to him posting this.
I think what it all comes down to is t.u. is finally jealous of A&M. At least now maybe t.u. can win a few games. Lets face it, last season wasn't too good longhorns......suck it up and come to the realization that maybe y'all just aren't that good. end of story.
WHOOP!

JJL3200 08/30/2011 11:21:00 PM
I'd like to see this "man" make just one of these statements in front of an A&M crowd...and live to see the next day (fat chance). You were so "brave" to write this piece of crap.
OPENING LINE:
"the nauseating jealousy that prompted Texas A&M's recent attempt to get the Southeastern Conference to open its doggy door to the mangy, attention-starved Aggies"
"Jealousy"...really???...what deep research brought you to that conclusion? One phone call to some irate Texas grad that's unhappy about A&M not doing what t.u. wants it to do. We're not jealous of anything about t.u.! You need to check yourself in and get some help...you're nuts...and you have some whacked out theories here.
"doggy door to the mangy, attention starved Aggies"...really???...you're one hell of a researcher, and you really know how to win over a crowd. Judging by YOUR picture, I will grant that you have a perfect definition of what mangy looks like, and you've probably been invited in (and out) via a doggy door on numerous occasions, but don't transpose your own real life experiences on A&M. Question...if the Aggies are mangy and attention starved, why does everyone want them to stay in the Big 12? And, If you don't think that A&M has plenty of attention (and good attention at that), do "just a little bit" of research (5 minutes tops) on the internet. A&M is highly ranked in many areas...& not just sports.
Dude, I hate to say this, but you're not smart enough to be a reporter. Burger flipper...maybe?
You gloss over the issue with TLN as if A&M is the only school in the Big 12 that has an issue with it. In less than 1 minute of research, you could "learn" that everyone (other than t.u.) has an issue with it.
I think it's odd that the Observer would pay you to write completely baseless commentary on a subject such as this, and essentially insure that no A&M grad will ever wish to spend a dime advertising (or other) with your "news" organization.
Smooth move...keep your resume updated.
-
JJL3200 08/30/2011 7:48:00 PM
Richie...not sure what you're drinkin' or smokin', but you need to do a much better job of research before you claim to know why Texas A&M is doing anything.
t.u. fans have been pumping this "jealous" and "envious" bull for years, and now you're drinking the kool-aid. Ask any A&M alum...if anything, we DON'T WANT TO BE LIKE t.u. We just like beating them up on the field of play, and our football record is not that bad. We've won 3 of the last 5 (including 2 in Austin), and going back 30 years (which is considered statistically significant) both teams are 15-15. That's not dominance...for either side. Note: I'm trying be fair here...if I went back 32 years, A&M leads 17-15. So...recent history indicates that we're holding our own.
t.u. continues to treat A&M like it's the "little brother", but they fail to realize that "little brother" is all grown up. Our campus, athletic facilities, research programs, faculty, endowment, alumni giving, and student body are all top notch...and essentially "on par" with t.u. Even Texas will admit that. Our enrollment is roughly the same as well...51k for t.u. to 49k for A&M.
Obviously, football is a big deal, but you need to look at other sports as well. To indicate the strength of A&M's athletics, consider this: This past academic year (2010-2011), A&M finished #8 in the Directors Cup (a measure of overall athletic performance...NATIONALLY...in men's & women's athletics)...A&M was the TOP Big 12 school...t.u. finished 12th. In 2009-2010, A&M finished #6, again the TOP Big 12 program, while t.u. finished #15.
And you state that A&M is "impotent"? That's moronic!
So what would A&M be jealous of?....t.u.'s arrogance or selfishness? That's really ALL that's left pal, because they are not appreciably any better than A&M in ANYTHING else.
You really need to ask yourself WHY t.u. is so fixated on telling A&M that "it's jealous", or predicting how A&M will fare in the SEC, or stating that A&M will be unable to recruit. Note: we know that the SEC will be tough, but we're looking for good competition/exposure, so forget about the "predictions"...we're prepared to go compete and see how we fare. It's also funny that no one infers anything about how t.u. would fare in a game vs. an SEC opponent, but since they lost to A&M 3 out of the past 5 years, t.u. must SUCK just as bad as A&M. It's called L-O-G-I-C. Why isn't t.u. toying with the SEC idea?...are they scared?
A&M has been gaining on, or even surpassing, t.u. for many years (across multiple categories)...to the point that we're roughly equals. t.u. prefers to keep A&M "under it's thumb", so they don't want to admit it. I think what's really going on is that t.u. is scared of A&M getting even stronger, and joining the SEC might have that result.
A&M has a character all it's own, and one that it's very proud of. The school is very comfortable "in it's own skin", and doesn't need to be associated with t.u. to succeed. A&M is much stronger than many people realize...mainly because t.u. likes to perpetuate a myth.
A&M is "grown up"...and it's heading off to pursue it's dreams.
I congratulate you on one thing. In one single, worthless article, you have alienated an entire fan base with baseless accusations and without knowing one damn thing about why A&M is looking at options outside the Big 12. That's pretty impressive...and extremely moronic!
-
1987aggie 08/30/2011 6:25:00 PM
Arkansas had an easier time recruiting Texas players in the SWC. That is why they were not competitive. If the Aggies have the year we think they can, they could finish in the top 10 in the country. If that can carry over- and it should since we have finally worked our way out of the barren pantry Fran left behind- and they recruit as well as any top 10 program always does, they can be competitive immediately.
-
1987aggie 08/30/2011 6:20:00 PM
What does OU and Tech have to do with it? Check YOUR facts, dude. Did you even read the post? TAMU vs. Texas comparison only. Goes back to 1975. Predates the xii(-ii\). Had a few rough years. Got their number lately (even Fran's last year.)

Actually, to use your comparison, Texas is the rich spoiled brat kid who has the ball. But he will only play with the other kids when he gets to call all the plays to go to him. The Aggies are the kids fed up with it who go looking for a better game.
-
1987aggie 08/30/2011 5:36:00 PM
It is obvious that you are not an Aggie, because you don't know anything about our school. You don't think we have a natural rival? LSU was our season opener for years, and we just played them in a bowl game. Apparentyl you haven't noticed that we play an annual game against Arkansas, a rival for years in the SWC. Oh wait, your experience only goes back 17 years and the Pigs split for the SEC 20 years ago. The big xii (down to x and falling) is doomed just as the SWC was when Arkansas left. Why shouldn't the Aggies leave now? Better now on their own terms than as a beggar when Texas completes the betrayal and goes independent.

Pwack15 I hope you are not an Aggie. If you are, you are a disgrace to the rest of us, and you don't speak for us.
-
1987aggie 08/30/2011 5:18:00 PM
Keep on talking, Richie. I quit listening to your radio show because you keep demonstrating what an idiot you are. "A&M prides itself on honor, tradition and loyalty" but the t-sips exercised their grand superiority complex by getting their own network- and the conference stood by and let it happen. Why should the Aggies stand still for that? We are leaving for bigger and better things. You are ignoring the fact that we beat both Texas and OU last year (should have advanced to the big x-ii championship but the stupid polls are the tiebreaker) and had a great comeback season. And we are ranked in the top 10. Why should we shiver in our senior boots that we are joining the best division in the best football conference? When you aspire to be the best, you take on the best. We will hold our own from the start WHEN we join the SEC.

It is great to see why Texas A&M would want to leave the Big12. That Texas class really shines bright in this article.
-
Perry Moore 08/29/2011 9:17:00 PM
So long, Aggies. We thought that if we went into the football urinal for a few years, we might sucker you into staying around to relish the ass kicking that you would have put on us, albeit temporary. Just relax and float downstream to the next pond. We need the extra room.

Jerry Beckett 08/29/2011 7:26:00 PM
"DeLoss Dodds, the Longhorns' athletic director, and Jack Swarbrick, the AD at Notre Dame, not long ago came together on a series of four Texas-Notre Dame games, starting in 2015. But they also have done some big-picture daydreaming. With the Irish and their NBC TV network anchoring, they've imagined a new North conference that would include Missouri, Arkansas, West Virginia, Louisville, North Carolina and Pittsburgh. Alongside Texas and its ESPN TV network in the South: Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, Baylor and Houston."
Not a single Notre Dame alum or fan that I know of has heard of any such "daydreaming" from either Swarbrick or any of the ND beat reporters or sites.
Aside from that, why on earth would North Carolina ever leave the ACC? Or Arkansas want to leave the SEC?
I think the "daydreaming" here is being done by Mr. Whitt.

Oh, and t.u.'s 5-7 season is something to be proud of?
-
08/29/2011 7:07:00 PM
And what about UT next year? Why is no one looking at their record? A&M's record against SEC teams is 0-6...UT's record against Big 12 teams is 0-5...maybe they should be the ones that leave? I'm sure the Sun Belt conference will have them...then they can continue to beat up on the powerhouse that is UNT.

The fact is this, a conference is supposed to be a group of like-minded people or groups coming together in "conference." UT didn't want that - they wanted to be the top dog. Did they "confer" with the rest of the conference w/r to the new network. No, they went it alone and put the screws to everyone else in the conference.
The writer of this piece contradicted himself to a great extent when he wrote: "Truth is, the Aggies regret not leaving the Big 12 last summer. They pledged unity, only to watch the Longhorns and their network kick mud into their face for the last time."
That is exactly what happened here - and only a year or so after Texas tried to blow the conference up. Remember now, the Aggies pretty much singlehandedly kept the conference together then. So then Texas pulls this last bit of arrogance. Nope, this was simply a bridge too far... it just so happens, A&M is the only school in the conference big enough to do anything about it.
And to Pwack15, clean it up man. I don't know if you are an Aggie or not (I am - Class of '93), but you need to grow up and get some civility. Aggies don't behave or talk that way.
-
Dallas7 08/29/2011 3:06:00 AM
@Pwack15 - wow. way to make the point of the article. You Aggies are so jealous you can't form a coherent thought.
-
pwack15 08/28/2011 11:27:00 PM
Since 1975 A&M leads the series 19-17
Since 1985 A&M leads the series 15-12
Since 2006 A&M leads the series 3-2.
To all tu fans out there...
You had a couple decent years...those years are over.
You will suck this year
You will get your ass handed to you by 21+ points in your final game at Kyle
A&M will dominate the next decade

Pwack15 08/28/2011 11:05:00 PM
Mr. Whitt do the the world a favor and kill yourself. Nowhere in that rambling, incoherent, pathetic bitch fit did you come remotely close to anything that could be considered a logical thought. You're seriously comparing a weekend 7-on-7 tournament (which is basically a back yard football game) to a 20 year, $300 million agreement with ESPN, the biggest sports network on tv, to create a network that shows longhorn propaganda and (is trying to show) high school sporting events 24 F#!?ING HOURS A DAY. You sir, are COMPLETELY retarded and should never be allowed to reproduce...or publish your opinions. Now that I think about it, your editor should commit suicide as well for enabling you to infect the world with your ignorance. Listen very closely to this next part...THE AGGIES ARE IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM JEALOUS OF THE LONGHORNS. IN FACT, THEY PITY THE HORNS AS THEY ARE BEING DESTROYED BY THEIR OWN ARROGANCE.
Mr. Whitt I say this from the bottom of my heart and sincerely mean it with all my being...
I HOPE YOU GET RAPED BY AN ELEPHANT ON LIVE TV. YOU STUPID MOTHER FUCKER
-
08/28/2011 3:58:00 PM
Mr. Posey- you are just as much an idiot as the writer. Typical biased comments...look at it from a business standpoint. Would you keep your business in an area where recruiting is monopolized (if it weren't for the network, A&M would stay)? Wouldn't you want to go somewhere where money is evenly distributed amongst all of the conference? Wouldn't you want to build your talent in a conference that actually competes for championship? A&M has always competed in track and field (winning national championships), won in soccer, won in baseball, and has been to the Big Show in basketball 3 times recently. Don't fill us full of your BS comments. The idiot is you

There's a lot of animosity towards Mr. Witt here based on emotion rather than logic. he's right. I didn't go to either school, but I own a sports media company and have covered both schools extensively over the last 17 years. A&M is making a mistake moving to the SEC. The Big XII has Oklahoma and Texas as the Big Dogs. Florida, Alabama, LSU, Auburn and Georgia are the Big Dogs in the SEC. A&M has no natural rivalries in the SEC. They will be relegated to second tier status with Mississippi State, Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Mississippi. This may hinder recruiting as opposed to helping it.Who wants to play for a school where the football team is 4-8 or 5-7? I suspect LSU will benefit more than A&M in recruiting Texas athletes. The sports A&M will be most competititive in are track & field (former LSU Coach), men's & women's basketball(former Arknasas Coach) and softball. Very stupid move by some very stupid A&M leaders...

What an idiot @richiewhitt- since a 7 on 7 tourney is equivalent to a network. I will never look at The Observer again. #boycotttheobserver
-
Bbheiney 08/28/2011 3:59:00 AM
Moving to the SEC would be the best thing that ever happened to A&M. Our schools are better, our sports are better (and bigger), and our conference is fairer and better balanced. Here's what A&M CAN expect in the SEC. Better recognition, more money, more TV time (CBS) and an improved level of play.
Sure, they'll probably get their butts kicked for more than couple seasons, but their possibilities in recruiting will be tremendous.
Welcome to the SEC, Aggies. We WELCOME you with open arms!
-
Hduke83 08/28/2011 3:53:00 AM
Congrat on your degree from UT......arlington. Too bad you didn't get to experience the true rivalry, first hand. Most of all it is too bad you didn't get a true UT education as your writing is obviously 3rd class. I think the joke is on you..... then again looks like you will soon be promoted to the New York Times. No facts required!

-
msteinmanshopsatwallyworld 08/28/2011 3:23:00 AM
Crap, I accidentally liked your nonsense.
So, we can't hold a candle to Texas in athletics? Who won four national championships this past school year? Not a university in Austin. Who's a three peat champ in track and field in both men's and women's? Not a university in Austin. Who at least got to go to a bowl game this year? Not a university in Austin. Who won the women's basketball championship? That's right, not some university in the state capitol. Sounds like stealing the Duke basketball coach away for your women hasn't really worked out that well for you.
And, tradition? Well, we were founded in 1876. You guys were an afterthought, an accident if you will, in 1883.

tcehoriginal 08/28/2011 3:17:00 AM
Yes and you calling A&M fans "fags" are real mature too. Why don't you go back to the tortilla factory after you deliver that pizza for my guy here?

I think you suffer from an inferiority complex. Let me guess you couldn't get into A&M so you stayed home in Lubbock, the both of you. Haters.

Nobody wants to be in the Big 12 because it's all about Texas and there's no stability. If the Longwhore Network has any success (a big 'if') they are going independent and saying peace out to the other members. Everybody knows that. Except the burnt orange writer of this article.

This nonsensical editorial piece is another reason why Dick, here, graces his presence to an ever shrinking audience on the Fan (the impotent version of the Ticket).

a UT alumnus? That's like saying someone that goes to a&m-commerce is an Aggie alumnus.

Hey now, don't besmirch my alma mater. Richie went to UT-Arlington.
The rest, who cares? McKinney is a nice place to live and over 55% of people that get married get divorced. What does that have to do with this article?
-
08/26/2011 2:36:00 PM
Official neutral observer here, Richie is still on the Fan, he's one of the few that hasn't been canned.
No alliances here as I didn't go to either school. It does seem weird that you're happy to leave a conference to seperate yourself from your main rival because you feel slighted by them all the time. Kinda reminds me of the kid that's playing football with 9 other kids, he's not getting thrown the ball and says "give me my ball, I'm going home". All the other kids say "aw come on", kid snatches the ball and leaves.
Surely you understand that comparison, right?
-
Resads 08/26/2011 5:15:00 AM
I really don't have a bias for A&M or Texas, but this (at best) would be referred to as horrible journalism. Strikes me as someone looking for 15 minutes of fame. I think your time is up.
-

A&M cant beat Texas? Are you joking? (Since 1975 A&M leads the series 19-17) look it up! (Since 1984 A&M leads 15-12) look it up! (Since 2006 A&M leads 3-2) look it up Richie! You say A&M cant beat Texas but scores say other wise. You are a joke.

By the way, end the rivalry game too. No need to play each other. Maybe you can play SMU or Houston at the end of the year!!! LMAO!!

Ha ha ha!! Enjoy independence, or whatever mish mash you have, as we go to Tuscaloosa, Gainesville, Athens, Baton Rouge, and even better, when Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Tenn, UGA, and Florida come to College Station. Oh man, I can't wait!!!
You go make your billions, we'll make our millions and everybody is happy. Time to move on. Hell, I can't wait to play the Mississippi's!!! Ok, Vandy and UK, lame, but roadtrips to Lexington and Nashville!! Woo hoo!!!
See ya suckers!!!

Why not respect any schools right to affiliate with whomever they wish. I'd like to see the tone of your column if T.U. had decide to leave the big 12.
-
Reef 08/25/2011 11:49:00 PM
Silly Aggie. I like how you try and compare our fight song's one line about A&M to yalls song, which is nothing but Texas hate. Hope the fans in Tuscaloosa arent too confused when yall start shouting about sawing Varsity's horns off.

About to use my parental controls to block myself from this site. Thought it might have some substance, not one-sided opinion pieces. Dallas Observer? More like The Big D Blog. "No dogs in the fight" huh? Should change your name to Michael Vick, or Flounder, since you are so one-sided.
